Looking to book our first holiday with our 6month old and at the moment the prospect is scaring me and I’m not normally one to panic about anything.

We are looking at going to Dubai and I see it is law to have to use a baby car seat. So fine we’ll take out Maxi-Cosi car seat with us, but then we were also going to take with a lightweight stroller for day to day.

However, if go in a taxi to a shopping mall of an evening, we would need the car seat but then would want our LO in his stroller as he isn’t a fan of prolonged periods in the car seat, plus don’t fancy carrying him and seat around for long periods. We have an iCandy travel system, but the stroller only folds when the seat is removed and I see airlines will only take a stroller that folds in 1 piece.

Given the law regarding car seats in Europe, the same issue applies here as well

How do people go away with regards to car seats, stroller, etc? Any advice would be appreciated

We just came back with our 9 month old from a LAX - LHR round trip.

We bought him a seat which came with an infant seat (didn't fancy him on our lap for 11 hours and he wouldn't have slept in the bassinet!) and the outbound was fantastic, inbound much harder as it was a day flight and he had a cold meaning he couldn't settle.

Anyway, we took our Graco Car seat stroller frame which seems similar to your travel system. It holds the car seat.

Each of us got a checked baggage allowance plus a car seat or stroller is carried free of charge so we checked two suitcases plus the car seat was the 3rd "checked bag". We gate checked both the stroller and car seat.....it worked out great for us and VS were great on both sides of the Atlantic.

Good luck

Have carried a Bugaboo for years, it folds into two pieces, and never had a problem. Take pram and seat to gate.
NEVER chk them in...I know at least 2 who have had prams snapped and airline will not cover, (CO & Emirates in these cases).

NH, do you check the car seat though? Or carry that to the gate as well??

I'd go for both, they may well "bag" your seat or pram(enormous VS logo'd transparent plastic bag)at the gate and put into the hold. Have tended to do this following prior experiences..

Your travel insurance will likely tell you to claim off the airline..You will note however in most airlines T&C's that "strollers" aren't covered for "damage" same I would imagine applies for car seats.

I've had a Bugaboo padded pram bag ripped open and the main metal frame substantially buckled by CO at EWR (no mean feat as these are chunky bits of metal :0 )
Brother-in-law also have had a pram frame snapped at Dubai or Perth. n(
