Hi all,

It's been a while since I last posted on here, but am definitely on count down now to my next virgin flight. LGW-LAS on 29 Mar flying PE.

The flight was booked as a package with Virgin Holidays and is showing as "H" class in manage my booking.

I've just had an email from Flying Club, and noticed that it is only 12,500 miles to upgrade one way to UC.

My questions are therefore:-
1. As the flight was booked as part of a package, can it be changed (by paying VA) to an upgradable class?
2. If so does anyone know how much (approximately) it would cost to change from a H to whatever the upgradeable class is?
3. Which would be the better leg to upgrade if you had the choice LGW-LAS or LAS-LGW?

I appreciate that there needs to be availability in UC for this to happen and I think I already know that the cost will be too much..........but I can dream.

Also just wanted to say a big thank you to all the V-Flyers, as I am constantly reading these forums gaining valuable information, even if I do not post very often.

Thanks for any help you might be able to give me now.

Unfortunately VH bookings cannot be upgraded with miles at all.

Thanks,

If you want to upgrade, you'd need to do this via VH as the booking agent. I warn you though, their upgrade prices are steep!

My preference is always to upgrade the return leg, it's the one you generally want to sleep on (from the US anyway!), and the outward leg is generally ok as you are excited to be going away anyway!

Finally, you could always ask at the airport, you never know...

Depends on what you value as the upgrade part.

If you want to sleep, then do the return leg.

If you want to be awake to enjoy the UC experience, sit at the bar and also use the clubhouse, upgrade the outbound leg.

That's 12.5k miles PLUS any extra VS Fuel Surcharge (APD is the same for UC as PE) so an extra £ 100 or so. But as Neil says you can't use miles to upgrade an H fare.

You would need to be in the W/S bucket and thats what will be the expensive part of the upgrade! It's hard to say what the extra would be as the H fare is a VS-VH thing and not a publically avaialable fare.

Give VH a ring but be sat down and prepared for a shock!

As to which leg to upgrade (if you can) I'd go with the outbound where you can make more use of the LGW CH and the bar on board

Penny

I managed this for my honeymoon flight to Nairobi last year.

1. Check that there are Gs available on the flight- I did this through the website and confirmed with the Premier team.

2. Speak to VH- I rang their London call centre who were extremely helpful. They need to change you to a 'published S class fare'- apparently there are special S class fares which are not eligible for upgrading.

3. Speak to Flying club (or the premier team- they did it for me) to upgrade your new fare. You should receive a new PNR with the new fare from VH.

I was lucky to have extremely helpful people at VH and VS who sorted it all out. And a computer gremlin which only took half the miles out of my account to upgrade our flights!

The difference from H to S to NBO in July was £180 return. The upgrade fee was £600 each person each way through VH!!
