I've booked to go to NYC next Sunday - out premium and back upper in K and Z class.

My wife is now considerng coming with on the trip but can only go on the Saturday.

Is it every possible to change my out bound seat for a fee or is K total non changeable?

I booked through an agency rather than direct with virgin.

If it is not changeable do I have a clever way out of this which will allow me to fly on the Saturday with my wife e.g. buying a fresh outward ticket?

The Gold club ticket saleswoman said that if I try and book a fresh outward flight and miss the sunday flight it will automatically cancel my return! aaagh...frustrating...any help pls advise...

K fares booked direct with VS are changeable but it will cost you £120. Z fares are not changeable at all.

Not sure if this applies to agent booked K fares though as agent booked fare rules are often different to direct book fares, even if they are the same fare class.

If you no-show for the first flight leg, your return is always automatically cancelled.

K fares are changeable for a fee of £120pp, but Z fares are not changeable at all. Your probelm comes because you are on a mixed fare itinerary and the most restrictive fare applies for all the legs, so for you the Z fare rules apply for your whole journey.

The agent is correct about the return being cancelled if you don't take the outbound, but you can reactivate the ticket for a fee of £170, but that would still mean you lose your current fare (you can reclaim your taxes), so sounds a very expensive option.

Unfortunately there really isn't many options available to you.

It's very difficult if not impossible to change a ticket when it has been booked through an agency rather than VS direct as agencies may have a a special deal for the sale of Z and K fares.

The Gold club saleswoman is correct. If you fail to turn up for your outbound flight it automatically voids the return

If your wife can travel on the Saturday (and therefore be in NYC Sat night and I presume also on the Sunday and the rest of your trip) why can't she fly on the Sunday???

Or am I missing something?

And to add to the comments already made, you're now within 7 days of flying, so any new ticket (for your wife) is going to be booked into fully flexible fare classes making it very expensive. Even if you could change your K and Z you'd only now be able to do so if you paid to make this W and J.

As I thought too......however......

Our upcoming trip to sunny California, is booked though a TA, as I couldn't get the VS web site to quote me a PE fare ex DUB at all. No issue with econ or UC ex DUB but not PE. The site kept coming back with "no flights available for this date", despite there being loads of availability in PE ex LHR. Must have something to do with the DUB-LHR feeder flights, although they were bookable no problem for econ or UC ?|

Anyway not to worry, as I got a pretty darn good fare through the TA, as it seems that VS have PE on sale for certain destinations until Feb 7th !

The fare conditions for this K class booking have a €275 pp cancellation fee prior to departure & a €195 pp change fee, subject to availability & any fare differences, again prior to departure.

So not at all as restrictive as I thought it was going to be.
