I have just logged into my booking and noticed VS have swapped the a/c operating my outbound flight to BOS next month from a A340-300 to a A340-600. The inbound a few days later is still showing as the usual A340-300.

I've noticed them putting -600's on this route a lot recently. Just wondered if there is any particular reason? Maybe higher demand or A340-300's being required elsewhere?

(The good thing, apart from now getting V:Port, is with more seats available they have moved my requested seats to some much better ones rather than being stuck in the middle.)

Kind of related to this, but we've also just noticed that our outbound MIA flight has changed from a B747 to an A346 on 4th May. Our requested seats are moved all over the place and we've had to settle for 5 that are as close together as possible with the hope more get released at OLCI. No email from VS to inform us of any change to our seats.

They don't send emails when there is a change in aircraft - and therefore seat requests.

They do send emails when there is a change in flight times though as this is contractual - running a particular aircraft is not a part of the contract you have with VS so no need to inform you of this.

As to changes of aircraft on the MIA/BOS route it is probably down to a rejig of the fleet due to expected increased loads over the summer. Some of these changes only affect a few days each week.

Fair enough, but it'll still be nice to know if they're going to move us around. I understanding changing aircraft is an operational reasons and I don't mind about that.

VS don't necessarily have contact details of all passengers - especially if they have booked via a travel agents. Even then and VS do tell the TA the TA maynot pass the message on.

The issue I see with letting people know about a changed plane type is the possibilty of there being a further change and then having to do the exercise again and there VS looking disorganised and causing unnecessary worry.

A change of flight time (to me and the airline!) is more important than a change of plane (and seat).

I suppose it depends on how many times they are going to change the aircraft, for the same flight, more than once. If they change aircrafts more than once quite a lot, then I agree with you.

If they just change them the once more often, bump everyone off their requested seats and don't bother telling anyone then in my mind that's bad customer service anyway!
