What goes on in MNL?

Just out of pure interest, why are some aircraft off to MNL for a couple of weeks or so at a time? Is this just maintenance or is it respraying?

They go to MNL for what are called 'heavy' checks.

There are 4 regular checks that a plane goes through on regular cycles and some are very thorough and take some time

The A340 aircraft go to Manila to have heavy checks. Lufthansa Technik look after them with Virgin Atlantic Engineering.
