I have read on other airline forums that the new JAM system has a flaw. Some passengers have complained that because the system is controlled by touch screen, constant tapping can be felt through the seat. The tapping is more frequent if the passenger behind is playing an onscreen game that requires constant interaction with the game. I haven't come across the problem yet as I mostly fly out of LGW, but with the new JAM system being fitted on the LGW fleet that may change. Has anybody come across the problem with the JAM touch screen system?
Yes there has been mention of it in TRs. The main problem seems to be that people who are not used to touch screens are inclined to jab the screen rather than gently tap it and hence the problem

Virgin America have the same problem, they mention to tap lightly before take-off usually. People who are used to touchscreens are often the worst, the fact is, it's just people who don't think about what they're doing and they're in they're own little world. I've always said touchscreen in economy for this reason is dumb, but every airline seems to be going with it.
It depends on what sort of touchscreen you are use to.
Resistive users will always prod harder or use a stylus to use it.
Capacitive users tend to be much gentler as they know it doesn't take much pressure
Those that have never really used touchscreens tend to to go nuts and practically punch the screens.

We have JAM on two flights on the A333 and can honestly say I haven't noticed any problems with tapping at all

Was that Y or PE though? I can imagine it would be far more of an issue in Y where the seat is less padded than PE.
Also doesn't PE have a remote too?
Having flown on a couple of different aircraft with touch screens, it's a big no go for me on aircraft. If everyone knows how to use it properly it's not an issue, but this is usually not the case (per Darren's comments above).
I had this issue on Virgin America a couple of weeks back, the guy in seat behind was jabbing at the touch screen so hard, was most annoying...luckily it was only a short flight from LAS-SFO.
I used the touch screen for first time in March on the A333 going to MCO. In economy. Had no problems but did notice other people getting impatient and thumping the screens because they just wouldn't give the system time to response.

Yes, it does. My 4 flights in 333 PE have not thrown up any tapping/pushing/slapping problem with JAM screens. However, during a trip down the back on my last trip, a few Y pax were complaining to crew about lack of response from the system.

Flying in PE I found the remote much more responsive than the touch screen.

It's still very much down to the individual, that and the screen on VX at least aren't that responsive. People don't think that jabbing the screen will have an affect....to the point I've seen blazing rows, courteous requests and evil stares on VX planes because of this. I've also seen people holding an iphone and an iPad who then practically punch the screens.
