I've seen conflicting comments about whether it's possible to get a full meal served in the snooze zone - what's the actual position on this?

Also, is it practical to "take a seat at the bar and have a meal" as described on the VAA web site? Surely that's going to be a bit of a lottery?

Reason I ask is that I'm currently allocated an UCS seat in the SZone on a full IAD-LHR flight and don't appear to have the choice of any NON Snooze Zone seats.

What are peoples experiences on this?

Thanks.

I have never had a seat in the snooze zone as have always chosen to avoid it as dont tend to sleep much on flights. I quite like eating at the bar & have never had a problem getting a seat during the standard food service period.

Whilst yes the official party line of VS is no eating a full meal in the snooze zone, I have never been turned down - (check out my recent TR from the VS022). Be prepared for them to tell you several times that you are in the snooze zone at IAD and then get ready for that advised of snooze stamp to be put on your boarding pass.. doesn't mean you can't ask.

If it is a very full flight and people complain that you are keeping them up then you may be asked to move to the bar - tbh I have eaten at the bar too, not too bad an experience as you get to talk to the crew and there is more than enough space there for a few people.

Failing that you could always try to move out of the snooze zone? Ask at check-in - I am sure this could count as an operational reason to play musical chairs. :P

Hope you have a good flight 8D

I used to not be a fan of the snooze zone but am now a convert, especially if you can eat well in the clubhouse before flying. I now board, have a glass of whisky and put headphones and eye mask on and off to the land of nod.

However, back on track, yes you can be served a hot or cold supper tray in the snooze zone, I have never been denied although I do try not to disturb my neighbours. Eating at the bar has almost always been an option for me too when I've tried it, night flights from the east coast tend to be quiet at the bar.

I've eaten in the snooze zone just fine - only, DO remember that others around you are trying to sleep, and cutlery clinking can actually be annoying. :)

Thanks for the replies.

One question - is the IAD CH serve reasonable meals or is it snack only etc? If decent meals would probably prefer to eat before boarding anyway...?

I would disagree with the "really good" part, but the food is fair and easy to stock up on so to speak. Although do not expect any chips as for some reason beyond my comprehension they favour ready salted crips with their burgers ?|

I'm with you there Joey, as far as clubhouse food goes the IAD one is not at the top of my list, the burgers can be awful, but lots of other things are perfectly good.

We came back recently from Boston in the Snooze zone - I couldn't complain as it was an op-up!

In practice we were served a full meal just as usual. Since I had a Bulkead, my wife came to join me on my ottoman, leaving an empty seat between us (eating) and the others (Snoozing)

This seemed to work well, and the staff praised us on our consideration!

last couple of times i've purposely chosen a snooze zone seat i've been surprised to not only find menus on all the seats but being asked if i would be dining or not, with no mention of the fact that i'm in the snooze zone (confirmed by the snooze zone stamp on my boarding card). it's a bit annoying when you choose this service only to find a good proportion of the passengers in the zone choosing to have a full meal

I understand that some people choose snooze zone as they want to sleep. However what happens if lots of passengers are "forced" into a snooze Zoe seat if that is all that is available at check-in? There may not be enough bar seats......and what happens if you get east coast turbulence? VS can't not offer those people a proper meal can they?

Also what those who sleep after take off and them want breakfast - that might wake those who eat and then sleep?

Last time I came back from the States in UC (on a 343 not in the snooze zone), I asked for dinner at the bar and was reassured by the steward that everyone would be having service in my area.

When I visited the restroom halfway through the flight wehn virtually everyone else was fast asleep, there was at least one person in the snooze zone who was awake and tapping away at a laptop...

You just act with consideration if that's the case

I find that on the short East Coast flights back to the UK the whole cabin beds down ASAP, and that the lights are often out whilst people are still eating their main courses. This erodes the difference between the main cabin and the snooze zone so I don't particularly mind where I am seated, especially since crews seem happy to serve meals in the SZ.
