It is. And much great fun was had at the bar on the EK A380 on my April/May flights, the LHR to DXB and back sectors, when I was on my way to OZ. And I expect more of the same on Wednesday. Vintage Veuve Clicquot as the "house" fizz in J certainly helps.

My return flight in May featured a passenger from First enjoying time at the bar with her personal bottle(s) of Dom Perignon. She asked whether I would like to help her with them........Deary me, the sacrifices one has to make sometimes.

I have made use of the bar on virtually all the 6 UC flights that I have taken so far. Why? Well I guess it's partly the novelty factor of being able to sit at a bar whilst flying, but mostly because I have had some great conversations with crew and fellow passengers whilst doing so.

I always eat at the bar. That for me is what sets Virgin apart from all other airlines; you can eat somewhere different to where you sit and sleep.

You can meet some fascinating people there and a great place to people-watch, but like any bar, there are always the drunken tits, along with a few sober ones too...

That's how I remember how the UC used to be, a real buzz about it!

Nice!

That looks like the way i imagined it to be before i flew with virgin! Looks proper fun! When it's going on like that i'm sure more people will come out and enjoy it!

I always use the UC bar - always after the main meal service and to engage with the crew who have always been so keen to talk too.

On my last flights last weekend (VS1 and VS18) the bar was busy on both flights which the crew did remark was unusual to and from EWR. but a good time was had by all (though the return stock of champagne had to be opened....!!! ): ..... :D

I've had some wonderful moments at the bar such as a flight to SFO after UC had stopped serving T10 only to find that there was the remnants of the same there and the consensus was that I should be the one to finish it! :o) That same flight the chat was fun. We had similar experiences until turbulence sent us back to our seats.

While I have never had some of the negative scenarios described I do remember a flight to Dubai where, when the seat belt sign went off shortly after take off, there was a stampede to the bar where the crew were preparing the drinks round. There was obviously a reunion taking place in spite of the crew's plaintive "We'll be serving drinks at your seats soon"

Another one was on a flight from EWR. I wasn't ready for sleep so I headed to the bar where the FSM was clearing the bar ready for landing. It was only 3 hours in to the flight and although she grudgingly served me a drink she continued on her clearing up and then abandoned me saying "I must go on my break" I should have marked that flight down further than I did :?

To VS defence that is the A380 - there is a lot more space available to them... although the way the lighting is setup does make it more inviting.... I wonder what VS will do with the A380 when (or even if) they take it up :? :?

I use bar for at least an hour on all my UC flights. For me it breaks the flight up and is a change of scenary and a chance to meet some very interesting people as I have done over the years. However I mainly fly on the longish flights to the west coast so would maybe use it less on a shorter flight.

I use the UC bar on most day time flights, very rarely on night time flights.
In my experience I have found that you get to know the cc sitting there chatting and pick up some useful gossip and titbits. Even spent one flight flicking thru a copy of "Hello" magazine with the crew explaining their experiences of celebs in that publication.
I very entraining flight it was as well!!
