I would love to eat in the clubhouse before I fly but haven't been able to find it at manchester(!) I really don't think that it is a lot to ask that after paying thousands for a flight that one of 14 pax (max) in a Manchester 747 cabin should not be able to get what they want to eat!

:D :D

I am a plain eater and can't digest spicy or curried food. I believe I should be given the choice of enjoying a meal during a long flight just as anyone who has a speciality request can pre order. If I am giving an airline over two thousand pounds if my hard earned money it's the very least they can do, no matter how hard it is for the airline.

Have you spoken to the crew on board? When I flew last year with my nephew who could only eat certain foods because of an illness, as soon as he had looked at the menu and seen what he could eat I went and explained the situation to the crew and requested that as we were near the back of the cabin would it be possible to make sure a specific choice was kept back for him. This was sorted with any issue, they brought his meal out first and as we were travelling together they also served my meal at same time, they then started the normal food run from the front of the cabin.

was just a thought

Unless it's the veggy option, something like parsnip surprise followed by sprouts, I'll pretty much eat anything and fully expect to put on a stone in weight over 2 weeks, hell I've been dieting for the last 6 months so I can get away with putting on a little weight

a crap choice of meal (or no choice) or even worse told you have to eat tofu

or a veggy option, which to me is cetainly food hell

I've never heard someone go on so much about veggie food before! Being a vegetarian I always have to pre-book my meal anyway, so I can guarantee you that I'd be more peeved than you if you got my meal because your first choice had run out.

Sorry, but I think that pre-booking food is vastly different from pre-booking seats (and, yes, I know, I know that they are only requests but let's not get side-tracked) If you travel regularly you know which seats you prefer and others gain the benefit of the wisdom of V-Flyers. Mostly people are happy with their choices although things might go wrong such as the IFE not working and are glad they have had the foresight to choose. Transfer this analogy over to food choices and it just does not equate.

Those of you who shop for the family, especially if you shop for the week, know full well that planning a week's menu is a nightmare as by Wednesday no-one wants what was planned for that particular day and the rest of the week. This is especially true if you live alone and how often has my freezer been the repository of "Wednesday's meal" (and Thursday's and Friday's!) :| xx( Choosing food for a flight so far in advance is more or less the same unless there is something on the menu you simply *must* have. Also remember that in programmes like "Book the Cook" that menu is fixed and different from the in-flight one as I found to my cost.

In fairness to SQ, they did offer to give me something from the main menu on my return flight as I had inadvertently booked a child's meal :w but I hate to waste food so I suffered on - well to the extent of two mouthfuls!!

Be careful what you wish for......

We did Airtours Man/Sfd 1997/1999, and we did get to order meals before we boarded. We paid our final balance at the travel agents and then got to choose, this was 6 weeks before departure and worked very well. ii)

This is VS we are talking about and their IT systems that would need to handle all of these requests and submit them to the caterers on time let alone manage the process within 'manage my bookings' without screwing it all up.

Yes other airlines can deal with this but VS isn't like other airlines !

I agree tonty. Look how many times we see complaints on the fb page about them not loading kid's meals even where they've been specifically requested and Kyle/Howard have checked and confirmed the bookings. Best to keep things simple.

Being the king of picking THE item not available anymore, it happened to me many times and on lots of occasions, inside and outside planes ... Flying on VS300 tomorrow and seating on 4K, I'm hoping to get my first choice but come what may, I've often got the second possible choice to my complete and somewhat surprised satisfaction ;-)

Been flying VA for 13 consecutive years now 12 in UC sometime thrice a year ( I know that not much to some of you folks ) but I can honestly say the majority of my flights ( I always pick 7a on a 747 or 8 on the LHR planes ) I have been asked if I would change my choice as they are short. Luckily I like chicken. On one ocaision they put two PE meals together for me as I couldnt eat what was left.
Personally for a £2500 to £3500 ticket I can understand people expecting whats on the small menu to be available, its not such a big ask and to be honest the logistics of it really isnt of any interest to me as a customer nor should it be.
