In fairness, it was their director of elevate and their director of marketing who told me they wouldn't. I had no reason not to believe them.

You'd think flying First Class on VX would get you in without paying, or did I miss that...

The economics of US internal travel don't quite work this way. If folks by and large either purchased F or redeemed significant amounts of points to get into an F seat you could see yourself through to letting them use a lounge; what seems to happen instead is that most folks upgrade to F, sometimes for as little as 50 bucks, in which case lounge access is less easy to justify.

I could see anyone paying F for a transcon flight between BOS, NY, DC or FLL and either SFO or LAX, for example, getting access to the lounge. That's the sort of policy the legacy US airlines have. Everyone else pays their way. And when you consider that what is on offer at pretty much every other airline lounge is junk, at least from a food perspective, it is no stretch to assume you will pay for VX lounge access.

I like that they are advertising a gin-based bloody mary: I'd never have it any other way, but it's the first time I have actually seen this on any sort of menu.

Agree with all of that. Interesting that they're pitching it about $10 less than other day passes. I'd pay $40 to hang out there if I had a layover of 2 hours +.

Also, I was a tad drunk when I talked to them thanks to their hospitality on the PDX launch. That and the Elevate bloke had only been at VX a week...I bow to your wisdom this time Slinky. I'll buy you a pint next time you're in SF.

Food menu is a bit more limited that your CH fare. Nice, but just seemed less of it. That would be my guess as to why the difference.

Last time I sat at a bar in an airport, at one of the Legal Seafood outlets in BOS, I had a nice glass of Gruner and some crab cakes, and it cost me about 35 bucks. So yes, I'd say it's well worth 40 dollars.

Catsilversword, VX and VS use different terminals, sadly, Upper Class Virgin Atlantic passengers won't get to use this lounge. That is until the inevitable move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3, and expect that this year I bet. With Air New Zealand's Lounge being taken apart in Terminal 2, and around 90 UC passengers a day using the lounge, let alone Gold Card members, their hand will be forced soon enough.
