Passenger Lists and VTOP

Hi all,
Newly registered to the forum but have been viewing from afar for a while! Have booked LGW-CUN-LGW in March using reward upgrades to Upper. I've travelled in Upper before on a J Class ticket but wondered when I travel on a reward ticket if the crew will know on-board that I'm not a full paying J Class passenger?

Also it's my partner's first time travelling long haul and in Upper Class; will VTOP definitely be gone by then?!!

The crew might know you are on a reward seat as it used to show your FC number as all 5's on the passenger manifest, not sure if it still does as that travelled on a G for a while now. However the boarding cards all just show the class of travel as J, regardless of fare code. It shouldn't make any difference to the level of service you receive, we certainly have felt better or worse treated if flying on a paid ticket or a miles ticket in UC.

G-VTOP should have left the fleet by March, although no confirmed date has been announced.

On my trip to DC in October, my flying club number was added to all my boarding passes even though I was a 'lowly' G. The checkin lady at LHR made sure that I knew the number had been added to my Boarding Pass (not sure why as I knew I wouldn't get miles / TPs) but it was a nice touch.

The check in agent at IAD (a bit snotty, TR to come, eventually) made sure that I knew my FC number was attached to my booking and then made sure that G was written in capital letters and ringed several times in at least two places on my boarding pass. Didn't like that.

She then said the lounge was ... and I said its by the gate? And she said, 'oh you've flown from here before?' And I nodded. She became quite nice after that. (not the worst check in experience I've had with VS though!)

But obviously some do and some don't.

Like Mandy, our FC No. was added by check in (but not with the attitude) the last time we flew on a G and was shown as AU on the manifest.

Taken quite a few Gs in my time and not once have I had a second tier service

Yeh they have fixed that, it now shows your FC number and tier level. y)

Thanks all. I wouldn't expect a two tier service to be honest, after all the reason weI have the points is because I've flown Virgin to build the points and/or I've spent a lot on my Virgin AMEX!
