I think this topic was discussed not too long ago, but I didn't really grasp all that was said so apologies for asking again :) .
I'm flying to SYD on Saturday on the VS200 and on arrival in Sydney I'll be jumping straight onto a Virgin Australia flight to Brisbane.
I understand that after retrieving my case and going through immigration/customs there is a V-Australia desk somewhere in the arrivals hall so that the luggage can be checked-in without having to lug it over to the domestic terminal on the other side of the airport?
Can a kind soul please tell me where I'll find this desk, and whether I can actually check in for the flight here, or is it just a baggage drop-off for ongoing connections?
Thanks in advance.

;)

We did this just two days ago, and it couldn't be any easier.

When you land, you have to go through immigration - reclaim your bags and go through Customs. If you are UC, you get a fast track voucher - which was VERY useful, though the main queues aren't massive.

Once you emerge into the main terminal, you turn to the left and follow very clear signs to the Virgin Australia transfer desk.

At that desk you re-check your bags and you are given your boarding pass and a voucher for the transfer bus. The transfer bus is just outside and it takes you round to the domestic terminal.

All very easy, efficient and painless.

Nick is correct - although the Virgin Australia website states that this service is free for VA and codeshares on one booking, but if the VA sector is on a separate booking it is $15.

Whilst I can't find this next bit on the website I think it is also free for separate bookings if you have the right FF status with VA or partners (well it was for us last year on separate bookings with VA Plat).

The bus can also be hell as VA is the last pick up point and if there are a lot of pax with luggage it can be a challenge to get on!

Whilst I hate to admit it, QF have a better arrangement with a dedicated airside bus, re-clearing security in their facility in the international terminal.

I would never plan to connect through Sydney, Brisbane or Perth as the international terminals are separated from the domestics and 'free' transfers are not the norm unlike LHR, unless it is airline driven eg spending miles on VS.

If you have the CDC then you can arrange for it to collect you at international arrivals and take you to the domestic terminal ): .
