Just had an e-mail from VS advising that my return flight from MCO has been changed from VS76 to VS74. The new departure time is an hour and a half later and is a total PITA considering that car hire has already been booked, but I suppose it is at least the same day! My question is this: has anyone else been advised of a flight cancellation so far in advance (not due to fly back from MCO until 14 May 13). Seems a long way off to cancel the flight ?|

I wouldn't sweat about handing a rental car back 90 minutes late. I've never had any issues with that in the past.

Seems strange, especially as you have moved to the 74. The 75/76 is the daily flight with the 73/74 just 4 x weekly, but the VS site is just showing the one flight. Maybe the loads were looking light and it made sense for them to keep the later flight as that had more bookings.

Re the car hire, it works in 24 period from your actual pickup time, most give an hour or so grace but be careful as they might try and sting you for an extra day if you are much later.

But better a few months notice than a couple of weeks. (EU 261/2004 only kicks in if less that 14 days notice is given)

But VS dammed if they do and dammed if they don't - someone complained the other day that VS sent them a letter about their flight time being changed by 30 mins !

I've had this before, a couple of times where I have had to change the return time of my car hire. On both occasions I emailed the company and it was no problem. One was no charge and the other did take me into another 24 hour period and they just charged £5 as a gesture of good will, which I had no problem with.

Or, just get to the airport early and have a few drinks( if your not driving the other end that is!!!)

Just been told by Hertz that I get a 28 minute grace period on getting the car back! 29 mins and I get charged for the 24 hours......

Just plan to get it back at the time you intended to anyway. Sorted.

For a flight last November to Vegas we were notified in April, so approx 7 months in advance.
