Baggage Transfer - LHR-HK-AKL - VA to AirNZ

Hi All,

Been a long time since I was on here but need to run a question by you guys.

I have been living in Auckland, New Zealand for the past 3 years and next month my parents are coming from the UK to see us. They have done it before, always flying direct with Air New Zealand via LA. This time though, they are flying via Hong Kong and there flight is LHR - HK with Virgin, then from HK - AKL with Air NZ.

They have 1.5hrs between flights in HK but they are worried they have to transfer bags themselves. They booked all the flights in one go via Air New Zealand website so I thought the baggage transfer would be handled by the airline? Does that make sense?

If not, has anyone transferred bags like this in Hong Kong and could give any tips to me for them, as they are fretting a bit now

If both legs are on the same PNR or booking reference I would have thought they'll be checked all the way through.
