Hi y'all,

How do I find out how heavily booked this flight is? Have seen references to Load Checks but cant find a link to them?

You can check using a number of websites including

http://www.flightstats.com

http://www.expertflyer.com

However, they only give an indication. It will show you numbers in the various fare buckets. Look in the tool box and then 'fare codes' for a explanation of what the numbers mean

Basically Virgin are selling at least 9 seats in Economy and 9 seats in Premium Economy.

To show different fares, each price is allocated a letter, so that the computer can recognise the prices.

In laymans terms, think of buckets. Each bucket has a fare.
Virgin will allocate so many fares to each bucket.
Once one bucket is full of bookings, bookings are made and added to the next bucket and so on and so on.

The below means that the none of the buckets are full, which could indicate a lighter flight, but not always.

Premium Economy
W/9 S/9 K/9

Economy
Y/9 B/9 R/9 L/9 U/9 M/9 E/9 Q/9 X/9 N/9 O/9

Virgin could literally be down to that last 9 seats and will be happy to sell at the given price.

I get how it works,and how to decode, but can't find the data.....

I've not had any luck with this.

I tried both the links given in the thread and searched those pages, but can't find the data.

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong, or grab the data and post in this thread, as I am clearly too thick to find it myself.....

Expertflyer is a paid subscription site. If there is a specific flight you are on and are looking for info on, post the details and someone will post the results for you.

I haven't used the others so can't comment on them

I don't want to sound patronising here but try following this ...

Click on http://www.flightstats.co.uk/home.do and then on the left hand side you will see "flights" ... click on this and then click on the "flights availability".

Or click this link http://www.flightstats.co.uk/FlightAvailability/flightAvailability.do

Then add your details in but look out for the time section - add in the time nearest to the flight you are looking at.

Then a list of flights should open up. Choose "your" flight.

You will then be presented with a list of letters and numbers. This is the fare buckets and the amount available.

Then try this link http://v-flyer.com/the-toolbox/fare-codes which will explain the fare buckets easier. This link can also be found at the top of the v-flyer page under "The Toolbox".

The premium buckets look to be empty (although this can change) and are currently showing as

J/0 C/0 D/0 I/0 Z/0

and the rest of the buckets are showing as

W/9 S/9 K/9 Y/9 B/9 R/9 L/9 U/9 M/9 E/9 Q/9 X/9 N/9 O/9

so pretty good availability (you'll not see a number higher than 9)
