Hi,

I am just wanting to know of anyone's experience of upgrading their flights after booking an economy Virgin Holiday.

I have a few questions as well.

1 : Can this be done by ringing the Flying Club and giving my PNR for the flight or does it have to be done with VH or even my travel agent?

2 : Pricewise is it pretty much the same as upgrading normally or is their loads of changeover charges for the booking?

3 : If I have booked extra legroom on the flight already can I get this refunded if I upgrade to PE?

4: Is it usually cheaper to take the risk and try an upgrade at the airport?

thanks for your help in advance, I know that there is no definitive answer to some of my questions but I appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

thanks

You can only do the upgrade with your travel agent, be that Virgin Holidays direct or whoever you used. Virgin Atlantic, or Holidays if you used another agent, won't be able to do anything.

Certainly with VH, they usually have a pretty standard upgrade charge, which is about £300pp one way.

Yes, you will be able to get a refund on your extra legroom seats, just speak to them about that when doing the upgrade.

It won't really be that much cheaper on the day and you run the risk of there being no PE seats available. If you want to upgrade, I would do it in advance.

We upgraded our flights to MCO for next month.
It cost us an extra £400 return each.

I doubt it was the cheapest option - probably the same situation as booking directly with VS. From my experience, it tends to turn out more expensive to buy an Econ ticket and then upgrade after - rather than booking a PE ticket from the outset.

When I looked to upgrade the flights, VH couldn't do anything on the price - they had to call their HQ to sort it anyway.

No firm evidence to back my claim...... but I never leave to chance an upgrade at the airport. Call it sods law or whatever but whenever I have made a decision to upgrade at airport they have never been available.....

If you think you want the upgrade inquire now and get it booked.... always make looking forward to holiday that much more fun.... also with VH they might add a Clubhouse Lounge pass in to for upgrading.... certainly ask about it as they do offer at certain times of year as a special.

thanks, for your replies so far.

Yeah I think I will upgrade as soon as can afford it. looking like payday next week so hopefully will be able to get summit sorted.

Thanks for the tip as well about the clubhouse. Worth a try I suppose! always a bonus if it works but if not nothing lost!

I think it might be more likely that as it a VH booking it would be the v-room rather than the clubhouse itself. Bear in mind it's going to be an upgrade to PE so the CH would be unlikely.
