Hi All,

I have a flight booked on a single PNR (Economy all the way) for an evening flight out of Dublin (EI) connecting with VS1 the following day. Obviously this means an overnight at LHR (desired) but this has created a couple of questions as I haven't split flight segments overnight before.

1) Will I be checked in and get boarding passes through to EWR from DUB or will I have to check in separately for VS1?

2) Will my bags be checked through to EWR or will I have to collect at LHR?

3) Seeing as EI charge for checked baggage will this be waived under a combined ticket with VS?

Thanks.

Not sure of the answers, but my preference would be to collect my checked bags and re-check them at LHR the following morning. The reason for this is security. It'll be far better to have your bags in your possession overnight than leaving them in the bowels of LHR which carries a greater risk of theft.

Obviously you have reasons for travelling over from DUB the night before VS1 given that Aer Lingus have at least 5 flights on the day which will connect with VS1 but to answer your questions:

1. I had a flight from Cork to Tel Aviv on BA travelling on Aer Lingus as BA codeshare to LHR I had an overnight flight and the following happened - because it was on overnight flight I had to collect my bags and check-in with BA the following day. That was over a year ago and that might have changed but given that we are talking about two separate airlines I feel this will not be so.

2. As above I believe you will have to collect them. I had been told that this would not be so but on the day the Aer Lingus check-in agent was insistent that I would have to collect and re-check the following day

3. You will not have to pay the EI checked baggage charges
