Please don't shoot me for mentioning the C word when it is only June.

However, I have a daughter in Florida who is coming home for a week in December to see her mum for Christmas. She is working, and is coming with her boyfriend who also works and so has fixed dates on when she has to travel.

Good old mum is funding the flights - and we are both monitoring the UK and US websites to see if we can get a good deal - but at the moment the prices are going up - slowly but steadily!

(As an aside, I am slightly astonished that to transfer her some additional miles to bring the price down will cost me £120 - not sure why I thought it was £15 - must have misunderstood last time I looked at gifting miles!) So not saving anything by doing that!

Hence my call out to see if there are any psychics or people with crystal balls who can tell me if there is likely to be a sale in the near future which will encompass December travel dates - just based on what has happened in years gone by - I would be one extremely grateful mum :)

I appreciate that if we all knew for definite when sales were then no one would book anything - but I am living in eternal optimism that I won't have to remortgage the house in order to ensure she gets her mince pies in good old Blighty :)

Airlines traditionally have a mini high season from around 20th December, but what has happened is that flights a few days before that get busier, so don't apologize for mentioning the C-word ;-)

What cabin are you looking at?

Whilst there maybe sales that include December they don't often include the two week Christmas and New Year period as these are popular times to travel and so can command top prices.

£15 is the admin fee for doing the miles transfer / gift plus the cost of the mile.

I assume you want to transfer miles so she can do an M+M booking? So remember there is nothing to stop you buying the flights via your FC account - just remember to change the passenger name to hers and not yours!

Hmm - can I do that even though she is in USA and I am in UK? If so then I may look into that! Thank you.

You can use your FC miles to redeem for a flight for anyone, for anywhere. Given that it's Christmas and if you have the miles and can see the availability for a redemption, it may be good value.

Just to say big thanks to Slinky and Tontybear as I hadn't realised I could do this. I am now 33,000 miles lighter (and she is travelling one day earlier than planned) but it bought the flight down to a very reasonable $331. So all booked and everyone happy :)
