Hi all,

I'm on VS1 next week with my friend and I've upgraded both tickets from Y to J as a surprise. I'm wondering how long I can keep it a surprise.

I can claim clubhouse access / UC checkin desk is due to status. The booking has a note on for the check in agent that it's a surprise. I think the only thing that could give me away is the boarding pass - if I print them at home, does it still have "upper class" stamped on it? Or if I check in at an economy or PE desk, would I still get a boarding pass that's marked UC?

Any advice much appreciated, I think it'd be funny to save it for the plane if I can.

Thanks.

For me part of the fun of flying UC is the anticipation of the flight so I wouldn't keep it a secret.

I think your friend will spot the words upper class on your boarding pass printed from home ,I'm with oldboy on this one ,let them know beforehand ,they will be so excited and it will make the time in the CH even more enjoyable in my experience

I do think you should share, because the anticipation can be fun but also when I'm in UC I tend to pack differently, esp. the onboard bag.

I remember treating my then girlfriend (now wife) to First on Emirates for our first trip to New Zealand. Kept it a secret for 6 months, told her the chauffeur was bought on miles, and then as we went to check-in we were approached by one of the Emirates staff - "What class are you flying in today?". At this point I had to tell the truth. Most annoying part is the reason they were asking was that they were overbooked and were going to offer us a free upgrade! Only time that has happened and we didn't need it...

Suggest you could probably hide it at least until Check-in, unless you other half is desperate to get hold of the boarding pass a bit earlier. If they don't ruin it there, I think you should be able to keep up the charade right up to the door.

I kept the UC bit a secret from my family until check in at Heathrow, and they were left speechless when we all approached the UC check in. We all had a great time in the Clubhouse, treatments and haircuts and lashings of Lanson and Mojitos :)

Sounds awesome
I like surprises too
I think if the person you want to surprise also likes surprises then you should go for it

Check in at home to get the seats you want.

Then get to the airport go to check in and get them reprinted.... :/) so you can enjoy the whole UC experience

Scrap what I said earlier, lol
My missus said she would love to be surprised. Ooops for me though because I simply told her I had booked UC for our next trip to Tokyo.

I had a similar post about surprises a couple of months ago - some posters thought a surprise would be a good idea and some thought it would be a terrible idea.

I guess I'll find out in 16 days time. Booked a holiday to BGI with UC upgrade back in February. GF knows she's going on holiday and for roughly how long but she has no idea where she is going or about the UC.
