Hi,

I want to upgrade my flight from ORD to LHR next Sunday.

I booked my original ticket in an M class fare. I upgraded to Upper Class on the way out but at the time there were no fares available.

It's currently showing:
J2 C2 D2 I2 Z0 W5 S1 H0 K0 Y4 B2 R2 L2 U2 M2 E2 Q2 X2 N2 O2

Does anyone have any experience of seats becoming available or recommendations on what to do please? I know it's very busy but I was interested in upgrading to premium or upper.

seats can become available even up to departure.
I have even been sitting in PE just before the doors closed an agent came and said there was an UC seat available.
My rule is - until the door is closed anything can happen.
However, generally if it doe snot happen by the time you leave the lounge (or check in if you do not have lounge access) then it probably will not.

either give FC a ring or ask at the airport.

UC looks busy -- in fact perhaps even oversold. So you will be lucky to get a reward seat, but definitely keep trying. Good luck.

Not sure it is oversold yet, would they still be selling I fares if that was the case, but certainly the chances of getting a reward seat before asking at the airport I would put somewhere between, no chance and not going to happen.

Do ask at the airport as on the day things could have changed with a few no shows or J's moving to another flight and with the whole flight looking full they could be willing to take some miles for a UC seat rather than having to do some op-ups.

I can tell you as a fact that what EF shows and what VS's own systems show in Upper Class are different - EF may show tickets available to sell, but that doesn't mean UC is not full. As we know, VS will oversell on some routes and EF can reflect that (the I may or may not be relevant depending on whether companies book into that).

Back to the OP, and as you say Neil, it is worth looking online and asking right up to check-in. In my experience however ORD flights are often full in UC.

Yes, I think you're right. I glanced at the load check (which is now J1 C1 D1 I1, incidentally) quickly and didn't notice the I2.

But it makes me wonder, whilst I agree with you, do we actually know that they wouldn't be overselling into an I-class fare?
