My son is flying with VS to Vegas in August and needs to book a connecting flight to Phoenix. He lands at 14:10. I appreciate you can never be certain but how long should he allow to get through immigration and get checked-in for the connection to Phoenix?

All advice appreciated.

Cheers,
Steve

We've got a reward flight in UC to Vegas which is why he was keen to go via Vegas.

Thanks to you and Penny_L for your thoughts.

I would look to book on Southwest - they have a flight to Phoenix roughly every 70 to 80 mins after 3.35pm and last direct flight leaves at 8.30pm. If you book now you got a good chance of getting the low web only flights currently priced $85.

Also of note is that you get your first 2 checked bags in the hold for free and you do not get charged a change fee if you need to alter flight times or dates (all details on their website) http://www.southwest.com

Our recent flights with them were LAS-DEN-EWR and SFO-LAS - on our experience good not fault them.

Worth a look if you ask me!!!

I'd allow a minimum of 3 hours between the arrival of the VS flight and your connection. Southwest might be willing to move him on to an earlier flight if he shows up early.

Thank you both so much for this!

It's a holiday with his mates but some are only going for 1 week to Vegas and others going (at different times) to Phoenix and then on to Vegas. One of his friends has booked himself on to the same VS flights to/from Vegas and they're now both booked onto a flight to Phoenix for a bargain $95 each including 2 checked bags.

We've allowed just under 5 hours for connections - he's like me and is somewhat risk averse. :)

Thank you all once again from both of us! y)

If there is an earlier flight than he can always ask if the airline will put him on the earlier flight. US airlines appear to be more flexible at doing this.

No worries!!

The VS flights are scheduled to arrive at T3 so they will need to get the shuttle over to T1 once they have cleared US customs.

SW have a pretty slick check in process at LAS (our experiences with SW have been excellent)...................
