I'm pretty sure that back in the mid 90s I flew VS to AMS. Is that right? Am I imagining it?
I'm just wondering if VS are likely to branch out into Europe?
If they did that would be awesome

Don't think they went to AMS either. :?

Read an article the other day about Virgin Nigeria.... Some things were never meant to be it seems.

Imagining it... Perhaps :P

I do hope that VS LR expands into Europe, might stop me flying BA then..... Missed ya at the social a few weeks back Jon, still looking forward to that argument for LR over BA. 8D

The VS 201 HKG-LHR used to stop in AMS to refuel. This was when they first started flying that route and outbound was fine due to the winds but return they could not make it all the way. I think it was something to do with the weight of the plane and pushing it to the limit - so it used to stop in AMS.

I am pretty sure that is not what you are referring to but a point of trivia to brighten the day.

Virgin used to have Virgin Sun which ran charter flights with a fleet of four A320s and also flew a scheduled service to Athens again using an A320. I believe both stopped after 911 or rather Virgin Sun was sold to First Choice. Here's one of the planes:

Now VS still has the right to apply for BA/BMI remedy slots at LHR to Nice and Cairo I believe so we may see some European flying (I don't know especially why VS decided not to go for Nice, that was always a popular route on BMI).

Apologies. Yes that would be better.

Thanks JCBR, slinky09
I too am hoping for a LR expansion into Europe. Think it would actually encourage me to go.
I guess if LR does well and consumer demand is there it could become reality

Wikipedia suggests AMS was a destination prior to closure but unsure to be honest.... :? Shame about having to miss the social and of course our planned chat about LR versus BA....perhaps time to organise another social..... ii)

I've got a memory of flying from LGW to Brussels, sometime late 1998 on Virgin... Was that just Virgin Uk? Does that airline exist anymore, whatever it is named?

Wasn't that Virgin Express or something, and they were based in Brussels then sold to LH or something ... that was all probably completely wrong!
