Hi,
We will be doing a little trip to MCO and LAS later in the year and have treated ourselves to UC on the return leg from LAS.

My missus is a very nervous flyer and as UC seats are side by side, does anyone have any recommendation which ones I should try to get so that I can at least give her some moral support during take-off, landing and, heaven forbid, any turbulence (I enjoy a bit of bouncing around but she gets a bit hysterical).

Also, it has been a while since we have done a long-haul VS flight out of LGW, do they still have the twilight check-in in operation?

One last question, there are no direct flights on VA from MCO to LAS (I was hoping to use some miles) and we will probably be using South West - does anyone have any experience of them? Are they just another Ryanair or more like Easyjet?

Cheers.

It would depend if Mrs Eagle would prefer to see you during take off - in which case sit opposite each other i.e across the aisle - or if she wants to hold hands over the barrier - in which case sit next to each other

Yes they still have twilight check-in at LGW but it now opens at 5.00 PM

Thanks Tontybear.
Perhaps as far forward as possible and across the aisle might be best then.

I have used southwest twice a year or more for the last 5-6 years, they are faultless, their customer service is miles better than a lot of airlines today. Soft drinks onboard are free and delivered to your seats by hand even on short sectors. They will also hand out a snack- pretzels or crisps.
Both me and my bags even made a 3minute connection- how my bags made it to LAX ill never know- cant fault them I have far too high a standards and can pick fault with anything but really couldn't even trying to with southwest.

Cheers ilikebluesmarties (you and I could come to blows fighting over them then! :) )

Watching Terror in the Skies on Sunday, the first question that came up was "Isn't that the airline we will be on to Vegas?". I think my quick talking got over that!

Thanks for the info on Southwest.

how about 6a & k in the pointy end? you will be facing each other rather than side by side.

Hi glonk,

I thought of those but wasn't sure if they were kept for others with better status than mine.

I just have to wait for the seating plan to become available and then get in nice and early in the hope of getting (and keeping) them.

Cheers

I think you should be able to secure those at T-90. Just get online at T-90 and see whats what.

I did LAS to MCO on Southwest a few weeks ago, one of the best internal flights I've ever done in the US, there's a trip report in the TR section. I found them excellent and with 2 free bags no extra cost. I booked the flights the day they became available and managed the one way for $100.

Or just connect onto the VX service between LAX and LAS.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Southwest in the slightest.

Thanks all,

I don't really want to hire a car for Vegas and the majority seem to be happy with Southwest so I may just stick with them. My other half has already said she wants the shortest flight available and that's them.
I thought I might be able to use some miles on Delta but she doesn't want that extra hour and plane change.
Oh well.....

Thanks for all the tips and advice.

The thing is, most of all, is to enjoy yourself and have fun and do whatever fits the both of you best! Enjoy your ride in UC when it comes about.

You really could not have picked a better aircraft and I agree 6 A & K. or row 7 would be perfect as you can see and talk to each other. Plus I don't think there is anywhere more relaxing than the nose of this wonderful aircraft and the LGW fleet with its small Upper Class cabin makes you feel so special you will really enjoy the experience .

Nope. It would be a real stretch to have worse status than mine, and we have had 6A/K.

I think one thing to be aware of in the nose of a 747 is that you're made very aware of the fact you're over the nose wheel. You hear every bump and lump on the ground, and can hear the wind whistling when then wheel goes up and down. May be worth warning an nervousness flyer....

If row 6 on the LGW 747s like Row 12 on the LHR 747's and without it's own overhead luggage locker?

I purposely chose VS15 to MCO for the 747. After the MD11, it is my favourite aircraft.
I did 1st in BA many years ago and I know what you mean about the noise from the nose gear. As long as it is making a noise, everything is working though!. :)
Must just work out when the 90 days kicks in and then be first to go for the seat selection.

Good point. Hadn't thought of it that way.
Check on MMB as it gives you a count down.

I agree. In fact I think the nose (generally) is not the best place for someone who doesn't like bumps. But I am not advising a voluntary downgrade... ): :D

No problem - just make sure we are first on and nick the one behind! ;)

One thing people don't mention is the fact that you are at not facing forward (as you see from the seat map), and while most towards the back are facing 'more forward', the closer to the front, the bigger the degree. I've not sat in the front seats but the one behind and it does feel a bit different "stomach wise" than the ones at the back and personally wouldn't chose them myself in the future...
