Just wondering at this stage - next year, in order to get the Disney dining deal, we will have to book our accommodation before our flights, which we are hoping to get as PE reward seats.

We've been told that Disney have some flexibility (they will move a booking a few days to accommodate flight bookings) but I wondered if reward seat availability tended to go with pricing - if flights are cheaper Tues-Thurs, this is when you are most likely to get a reward seat?

Pretty much, yes.

For instance looking at LGW-MCO for March next year, in PE, there are no reward seats on Saturdays or on any day at the end of the month once it starts getting close to the Easter holidays.

That doesn't mean there are never reward seats on Saturdays though - there are still some in February - but like cheap cash fares, the busiest flights sell out quickly.

When the flights opened for next march a few weeks ago there were reward seats for PE on pretty much all dates. We bought our tickets and upgraded to PE both ways on the first day. Had to wait about 10 days to get UC on the outbound which were released one day at a time and it was quite predictable. However the return for upper has hardly shown any UC on a Saturday. (we fly out on a Friday and back on a Saturday) The only UC available on a Saturday from MCO to LGW is new years eve!
Get in early and you are in with a good chance for a PE upgrade. But if you are happy with PE then it may pay you just to buy the cheapest PE ticket.
2012 I paid £1777.80 for economy and upgrades to UC (used 50000 miles each)
2013 I paid £1763.14 for cheapest PE ticket
2014 I have paid £1559 for economy and upgrade to PE both ways then a further £100 tax to upgrade to UC on the way out.
All those figures are for two of us.
