BA Sales

Hi guys,

Do VS generally tend to follow BA pricing? BA seem to have just launched what looks like a sale. I'd rather fly VS for the same money but VS are currently £250 per person more expensive. It seems BA only loaded the fares today, would you guys think there is a decent enough chance that VS will follow suit?

I think it depends. I booked DEL at £500 discount in UC last week, during the BA luxury sale.

But other times that hasn't been the case- bookings already held probably are important too. Just keep checking- and if the do follow them down they will end the price match when the BA sale ends. I checked at 00.02 after the sale ended at midnight and they were back up again.

To close this one off the answer is no, they won't match the BA price.

Then the BA price will go up to 700 quid.

Then all the indirect flights will go up to 650.

Then you'll find you spent too long messing around and can't get a transat economy fare for under 650 to the East Coast.

I think I know what the moral of the story is. Just so difficult these days to maximise value for money. Even at 500 quid they were hardly 'cheap' for flights to the East Coast outside of school holidays.

Ah well. It's a dark art!

Personal experience it is depends on the route on a match. On some routes BA have way more seats and are less full - on others Virgin, prices reflect that on some busy routes.

When booking flights at work I often find BA/Virgin identical prices - except when plane near full when over 1 month out on either carrier. Under 1 month - thats when things get interesting, ended up with Business, UC, First all for less than economy in past when pricing trips as economy overbooked (on BA this is). The difference between BA and Virgin in economy is often the biggest issue....

Personally when I cant find a cheap east coast deal and needing one on relatively short notice, I'll price a Virgin Holidays flydrive or flight + hotel - it's often lower priced than a late notice VS flight from the VS site, as due to the special relationship - VS may have pre-booked 50 or more % of the plane and may have availability.
