On my recent flights with BA I have had several conversations with both the lounge staff and the Gatwick crews and they have all confirmed that BA will be moving to the south terminal and taking over the VS facilities and visa versa. Has anybody had the same confirmation from the VS crews or lounge staff?

Well I'm genuinely shocked given how much BA and VS have invested in their operations at LGW in recent years. Indeed didn't BA have a huge hand in designing and building the recent-ish north terminal extension to their specification?

Another thread on this subject a few months back - when it was all just rumours - suggested Easyjet were the main drivers of this as they want to consolidate all their flights in one terminal. Clearly orange money talks!

Presumably there'll need to be substantial work at the south terminal as BA will need, for instance, far more lounge space than is currently available: their Terraces Club lounge at the north terminal seems far bigger than the VS Clubhouse and they also have a separate First lounge. I can't see where they'd fit at the moment.

Does anyone know when this will happen in 2015? We have booked the Hilton at the South Terminal which will be a pain if we have to then go to North on the morning of our flight. PS we're flying to MBJ in February

Not that much of a pain, just take the monorail if they have swapped.

Taffytorchy, moving from South to North will only take a few minutes with the train shuttle ... This really shouldn't prevent you to stay in Hilton.

Do not take this as being official, but I have heard it will be more like very late 2015 / early 2016

There may also be the possibility of a DTCI

All they need now is a decent connection from Manchester!
Love to stay at the Hilton but a Little Red, or dare I suggest even a BA, flight would be much appreciated.

Know the feeling we are flying to Kingston on CW same time and have five rooms at the Hampton inn north terminal. Still it would be nice to use the VS lounge as it's much nicer.

I also heard via the BA staff that one of the sweeteners for VS was to be a DTCI

Here's hoping VS have an UC wing and private security channel like at LHR.

And here's hoping the current BA club lounge becomes the Clubhouse. It's a great space, just a shame BA run it so badly. No hot food at lunchtime? Please!

We have a flight in Feb next year and I have delayed booking the Hilton for that very reason. It is my preferred choice.

Several years ago we used to go to the airport on the day of the flight as we are only 40 miles away. However it snowed during the night and the friend giving us a lift to the railway station could barely get his car out. Then the train was delayed. Then finally at Gatwick the shuttle train was out of action. We still made it to the terminal in time but were so stressed out. So now it's airport hotel the night before.
I like the Hilton because for £30 you can have access to the business lounge with snack food and drinks.

If it's moving before Feb then I think we'll go to the Sofitel.

Sofitel is very nice at Gatwick but personally for a night before a flight at the airport, for the north terminal, I would go for the premier inn. I have stayed there a number of times and even for VS flights from the south at present and I must say that the Premier Inn North Terminal is amazing value for money and is a great option comfortable, quiet, has an amazing restaurant, bar, and costa that's open 24 hours. Although I do loathe the north terminal if it means that I get to travel Virgin I would live with it but also does this mean there could be a huge input of investment from Gatwick to upgrade the security procedures at the north terminal considering they are now very old, clunky, and unecessary where as the south terminal is amazing, quick, and efficient?

Another issue for me (and it's a factor in us staying at the Hilton even when flying from the North terminal) is that the official valet parking always seems to be significantly more expensive north vs south - £32 more for the last quote I got a week ago. Not sure how that's justified...

I'd say there's easily room for both the Clubhouse and the V-Room in the space currently occupied by the two BA lounges.
