Have managed to secure G's and got a decent price on a cash upgrade to PE for return. Looking now at availability on the way back I suspect that G's might become available for that journey too. Only problem is of course that I'm now in H class, not upgradeable of course. Miles aren't a problem, got enough to upgrade from economy, so the question would be whether VS would let me downgrade back to my upgradeable economy fare and upgrade to UC with miles? Money back too would be even better, but know that's unlikely. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

I am pretty sure the VS system will just not be able to cope with moving down from H to Y again - even though there is a logic to it. By far the easiest way would be to pay up to a higher PE fare that would be upgradable but that only works if there are G seats and it may cost more than you were planning.

The only niggle at the back of my mind is that whatever you do with your ticket after purchase the VS rules always say that you are bound by the restrictions on the original ticket and the original ticket has an upgrade ability.

A refund is not going to happen whatever the outcome !

I would just pay up to an S fare if the Gs appear on the return. It won't be as cheap as the cash cost of upgrading from an M, but that's the trade-off for being sure of having at least a PE seat.
