Hoping anyone can fill me in about the world of flying club miles!!! Not sure exactly what to do with them...I have just over 9000, doesn't look like I can do much with that amount! Is it worth converting my tesco club card vouchers too. Am hoping to book return flights to Orlando from Glasgow flying in June..can I use the points to upgrade and if so does the fare have to be a particular class...all confused..all info welcome. Thanks

With 9000 miles you have very few options open to you. You don't have enough for a full flight or to be able to upgrade to a higher cabin (yes you do need a specific fare code, and their to be miles seats available).

You have a couple of options, a miles plus money booking, it could save you around £50-100 depending on which cabin you choose. The other is to keep saving and earn up some more from your next flight and use them on a future booking, this obviously only works if you koan to fly Virgin again soon and would like to upgrade.

Thanks Neil, didn't think I would get very far, ha ha!! Is it worth getting myself some miles via tesco club card, enough to get a one way upgrade or just hang around and pay for a cheap upgrade. On another note have been patiently waiting to book our Orlando flights for 20th June, returning 4th July, I believe they will be on sale tomorrow...the burning question is should I book straight away or hang around in hope of a sale?

Probably not worth trying to get extra miles, I imagine the cost and hassle would be to much especially if there aren't any reward seats available.

I wouldn't book on the first couple of days as the prices will be very high until they release the lower fare codes, leave it a few days then look. If your dates are fixed then I would book sooner rather than later, there aren't that many GLA flights, it's a busy period and to worth the risk, unless you can be flexible if required.

I think you need 12,500 to upgrade one cabin one leg.
So 50,000 for a full Upper upgrade.
The extra money for an upgradeable ticket is almost the same as buying a bucket premium economy ticket, so not worth it for a one leg one class upgrade.

I would hang onto the miles and go all out to save for a future flight.
Yes convert Tesco clubcard points. I think if you sign up to do it automatically you get an extra 1000 miles.

Get a Virgin credit card if you haven't already and use the Amex one where ever you can as that gives best mileage reward.
Shop via the Virgin website. There are loads of partners that you miles.

Booking early is only really worth while if you are upgrading because reward seats can be released a month or two after the tickets first become available and can be snapped up pretty quick.
I bought my Feb/March tickets in April and upgraded to PE straight away, then a couple of weeks later got UC out and a few weeks after that got UC back.
I'm now dedicated to collecting for 2016.
