Hi all,
Been trying to find information on this but still not 100% clear. I plan to use my AU renewal companion ticket for my hubby later in the year in PE. Are the companion tickets only redeemable at a time P fare seats are available or can they be linked or 'made available' for the full fare ticket dates? This would be be the first time I am using a reward ticket so wanted to be sure before booking anything!

The companion ticket is used when you are buying a either an S or W PE revenue fare, you can't use it on the cheaper H or K fares.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think there also needs to be reward availability for the companion seat. As always with these things, it would be best to give Virgin a call as they will be able to fully advise on all availability etc.

I think Neil is spot on here.
Only tried to use this type of "voucher" once, a number of years ago.
From memory it had too be one of the two highest buckets in each class and there did have to be reward seats available in that class.
When you add up the costs it was cheaper and more convenient, due to dates we had to travel, to purchase two cheaper PE buckets than redeem the companion voucher in UC :( :(

Yup. ONLY useful if you were buying a higher fare bucket in the first place (i.e.: you're travelling for business anyway) and want to bring a friend/partner along too.

If using your own £££, 99.9% of the time it's a cheaper option to buy two normal lower-fare tickets.

Thanks everyone. :? Seems like a 'reward' that's not really a reward. The only good news is the that only tickets available for the route we are looking at are W/S fares which should qualify, but no reward seats availability on our dates. Might just tag him on to a business trip. Not sure he would appreciate being a business tag-on though ): !

Remember just because there are no reward seats available right now doesn't mean there never will be.

They can and do pop up at random. Two friends who have been looking for months for PE reward seats to upgrade to on JNB-LHR next month finally struck lucky today.

Patience and persistence often pay off.

Very true! Thanks for the reminder and fingers crossed, we get the dates we actually want.

I would have thought the AU renewal companion ticket might have had some use.

I accepted the amex card one was a waste of pixels on the screen, but would have thought they'd maybe like to actual "reward" an AU renewal, rather than "annoy".
