is there a way to see what seats are available before I book
going from lhr to ord in pe

Not on the VS site.
With the current system where you can't select seats until 60 days before the flight, there wouldn't be anything to see until March any way.

No, not on the VS site.
You'd have to sign up to a pay site like Expert Flyer, they show the allocated seats.
