Thanks for reading, I know there's no definitive answer to this but I know you guys will have some good advice!

A G seat has become available the day before we have reward PE seats booked. Problem is....I need two. Do I change both our flights and hope another becomes available or hope two come up on the flight we are already booked on?

The problem is, of course, there's no guarantee of either.

The obvious answer is one G is better than none - but how much of an issue is it if you change flights but a second G never materialises and the two of you end up in separate cabins?

The other thing to bear in mind is if there are still UC seats unsold on the day of the flight, they MAY sell you a miles upgrade at check in - but it's never guaranteed (and seems to be more likely on flights to the UK rather than from).

Oh the stress! I soooo understand.

This is a chance. As gumshoe says there's no guarantee.

However, a few months ago I started with 2 'M' fares for MCO & by the outbound date I'd secured 2 x G outbounds, securing them on different days less than a couple of weeks before departure y)

By the time the inbound date arrived, I'd secured 2 x G, one of them becoming available whilst in Florida y) y)

What if you take this G & another one doesn't appear & there's no possibility of upgrading at the airport with cash or miles (or both)? Could you live with that? Depending on the answer to this question, you have the answer to your question. :?

Good luck, keep us posted

Thanks, I don't mind sitting apart on the plane tooo much. I feel like it might be my only chance to fly upper class. The Mr doesn't seem bothered.

I was just hoping for someone with a crystal ball :)

Do you think there's a better chance on the Sunday or Monday of more G's becoming available?

It's simply impossible to say. There is no obvious pattern to Gs becoming available. They pop up at random - presumably when some complicated algorithm says the time is right to release them.

It's not in VS's interest to make predicting G availability easy - if everyone knew they'd have a good chance of getting one at a certain time, they wouldn't sell many cash UC tickets.

Thanks. I was just thinking in terms of how full/empty flights might be Sunday/Monday. I know I'm clutching at straws really!

Please could someone tell me how to put my flights into the intinery so if I should happen to get G's I could share the love a bit :)

Empty flight <> reward availability, unfortunately...

It rather depends if you want to be in the same cabin.
I recently had a similar situation where there was one UC seat available on the day we wanted to travel. I didn't take it.
I waited. About a week later two became available the next day.
So I made the swap and we are both now booked UC both ways and I'm going to have to have an extra days holiday and visit St Augustine. Oh what a shame.

Thanks everyone. I have some more questions if that's OK?

What is the fee to change a rewards flight to different day and destination? Would it be cheaper to cancel and re book?

I think I may have found a solution....just getting the Mr's approval.
Also if I can only get G's one way....should it be outbound so we get clubhouse or inbound for extra luggage?!

I agree with the poster who says one seat is better than none. Grab it and you are halfway there.
You then only need to find one more which has to be easier than finding two ?

A few months ago I was travelling from HKG-LHR with my partner. We could only secure one G in advance. The flight was full so we had one UC and one PE.
I asked the person in the next PE seat if they would like to swap seats with my friend and they at first appeared reluctant until I said it was an UC seat at which point I don't think they quite believed me.
That is what we did and they were delighted. However, just before the door closed the ground agent came and told me there was a no show in UC and I could shave one more seat !! However, it was too late - I could hardly go and ask the swapper to get back to their seat could I ?

The rule , therefore, is until the door is closed anything can happen.

If I could go upper one way and it's a USA trip then I'll have the return to make the most of the flatbed.
I know No 1 lounges aren't Clubhouse, but they do give a relaxed start to a trip and it's £22 each booked before you go.
You may find someone on here willing to guest you in the CH if you publish you itinerary.

I've been through the same issue today ... finally after weeks of waiting, one G appeared on VS8 ... Need 2... Called the FC and talked to a very nice gentleman who told me it would be 12500 miles and £60 to upgrade ... Couldn't refuse ... Went for it but put the OH on the UC seat for the time being ...
Waiting for a second one to materialise ... Only flying back from LAX on 7th Feb so fingers crossed !

I think it's £50 to change a FULL (not upgraded) rewards flight, waived for Au holders. Just phone and ask to be sure. Unless you're on a fully refundable fare, it's basically never cheaper to cancel and rebook unless you got the tickets for less than the cost of the change fee (which is usually priced just so this doesn't happen!)

I always think that if I can only get UC one-way then I would always prefer it on the return journey...I find that on the way out I'm always so excited about the prospect of the holiday and what we plan to do that its better to use it on the return as a last treat before getting back to reality...also the benefit of actually using the flatbed overnight.
