I used to use my tesco earned avios on virgin before the big avios change.

However I just got a virgin black card and earned the 30,000 bonus on it. so now have a starter back into va miles.

I have been stockpiling tesco points and now have £300+ of clubcard vouchers that i've been saving for a bonus xfer that has never materialised.

So, I have recently noticed that va is cheaper both points and surcharges than ba so thinking fully about returning.

the one thing that is holding me back is that i have grandfather rates with avios of 800 avios per £2.50 voucher.

How often have virgin done a bonus exchange from tesco, and how likely is it for them to do another?

VS run bonus promotions with Tesco clubcard frequently ( one ended recently) unlike BA who haven't run one for ages.
Some economy redemptions with VS have cheaper taxes and fees than BA but the UC taxes are similar.Normal mileage rates for redemptions are generally the same with BA/ VS although when there is a reward sale on the mileage rates can be less with VS ( although not all routes are included in redemption sales).

We have just gone over to BA having been loyal to Virgin for twelve years, only because they fly to so many direct locations that Virgin don,t.

Having accumulated nearly 100,000 miles each, now have a BA prem plus card and have managed to redeem on two flights for next year, more than we ever could with Virgin.

Having yet to take these flights it's remains to be seen how they compare, as it all depends on what crew you have on, with regards to service.

BA have not had an offer on Tesco redemptions for over two years, but as mentioned they do have a lot more availability to lots more areas, it's no use having thousands of miles if you cannot use them. We even managed a redemption into Vegas, and we have a few more destinations lined up for forthcoming years, even a first into Chicago and out of Toronto or reverse. y)

Thanks for the info,

Seems I'll hold on and wait for a bonus rate.

I'll be looking for 4 seats in Y to MCO and then 4 seats back from JFK on the day flight all in July. (Wife and family will never do another overnighter and would rather travel to jfk and spend the night in hotel)

So although not the very best use of miles, those flights are still about £1000 each in july with cash, so using miles is still a really decent saving. Especially now there is no APD for the Kiddies in Y.
