If she is due for her heavy check then it has to be done (which is why they go to China)
Saying 'but she is leaving us in a few months' won't stop it from happening. Without it she won't be allowed to fly - certainly not in passenger service.
It may also be a requirement from the leasor or whoever is buying it from VS (not sure of she is leased or owned) that she has her heavy check before being returned to them.
All the 747's go to China for maintenance and winter time is when it happens as it's less demand so this one should be back for the Easter rush
Think the A340s go to Manila in the Philippines. B747s to Xiamen in China.

The fact that she was at MNL for a few weeks in October/ November 2014 suggests this could be end of lease checks and that she has flown her last VS flight?
If that's the case, at under 10 years old I hope she had a future somewhere...even if 4 engines seem to be going out of fashion....

She will not be returning to service with Virgin Atlantic if she has gone to Manila.
She is being advertised for sale or long term lease by Airbus Asset Management, along with G-VSSH (Sweet Dreamer).
These are the only 2 A340-600s leaving the fleet in 2015.
