Flying to Asia on VS/partners w/upgrades - possible?

Hi everyone,

Plotting my next trip(s) and hoping one of you might be able to help me with some flight options please (Try as I might, the ITA Matrix confuses me...)

I'm hoping to fly to either Tokyo or Bangkok. Am in London, but can do ex-DUB easily. If possible, I'd like to fly VS (or partners) and upgrade from M class; or, if it's more worth my while to do UC from ex-DUB, do that instead.

Essentially, my question is what's possible on VS, for either destination? What would be the best value all-round (including earned miles and points)? And how would I go about booking either option?

Hoping someone can help me with this. Thank you in advance

If you want to go to Bangkok and Tokyo, just take a virgin flight to the former and fly to the latter from there.

To Tokyo you could try ANA but I think with partners it has to be a full miles booking so no M fares + using miles to Business class.

Not sure about BKK

Have a look at the airline partners on the VS website and how you can spend miles with them

That is predicated on being able to get a partner reward in the first place though!

VS does not and has never flown to Bangkok.

You could also do an M class upgrade to Hong Kong or Shanghai, and then connect with a partner airline and pay for whatever class you'd like to your final destination, as it'd only be a short flight. However, you probably won't be able to book them all on the same PNR, so good travel insurance is a must in case of delays.

ISTBC corrected but on all of VS's partner airlines you cannot use FC miles to upgrade from one cabin to another from a fare based ticket to a reward ticket like you can on VS itself. You have to be booked in the cabin you want at the time of booking using miles.
