Hello from LHR T2

So, a few days ago I decided on the spur of the moment to book a same day return from MAN to LHR. I've never flown Little Red and was curious to try before it's gone. I have to say, I'm very sad it'll be no more. Friendly staff and pretty comfortable seats. Although on that latter point do note that as I fly short haul so rarely I largely only have Jet2 for comparison! Plus, it's such an easy way to get a couple of extra TP and a few miles.

The flight today was about two thirds full. Such a shame they couldn't make it work. I feel with a bit more time it could have taken off more (no pun originally intended).

It is a shame LR will soon be no more... the transfer numbers they were getting just didn't make it viable unfortunately.

Thanks so much, all! I think my OH was initially incredulous that I'd do such a thing, but now wants to do it himself! I actually really enjoyed it, it was very relaxing travelling just for the sake of it, rather than because we desperately needed to be somewhere. Whilst at T2 I caught up on some work e-mails and read a book; it was lovely and sunny outside and T2 is very pleasant and light with plenty of seating.

The return flight was even more full than the outbound.

I've done the same thing for the last day of LR, LHR to EDI and back on the last ever LR flight. Shame to see it go.

I am not likely to ever fly Little Red now, but what makes it so special ? Isn't it operated by Aer Lingus so what would be the difference - I am sure there must be one so I am interested to know. Ta.

Yeah, an A320 is much of a muchness, whoever the operator is...
But there's a lot more to flying than the physical aircraft!

I think the popularity of LR is partly the comparison to the alternatives!

For me, LR provided an alternative to BA on the EDI-LHR route; and proved to be superior on every metric you wish to compare.
Here are just a few..:
- the crew are friendlier
- far less of those sweaty fat 'suits' pax waggling their gold cards as they drag their kitchen sink on board as hand luggage..
- the flights are almost always on time, even in the evening, when the BA EDI flights are delayed every evening without fail, sometimes by a couple of hours.
- T2 beats T5. In every way.

Plus TPs, and an easy connection to T3 if travelling onwards long-haul on VS..

Ach, let's not have too many of these threads... it makes me sad!

Particularly like the "fat suited gold card holders" or whatever you said. Needless to say they won't be doing that on Hand Bag Only fares soon. Poor darlings.

There's nowt wrong with Aer Lingus short-haul. OK, so food and drink is buy-on-board but it is good (in-house, not mass-produced) and competitively priced but it does what it says on the tin - and far more pleasantly than its distant cousin (and part-owner), Ryanair

Ha, thats one major difference I noticed on my LR flight yesterday - just the two of us in the pre boarding queue, rather than ¾ of the plane on BA.

Having said that, the crew on VS were a little off compared to BA ("Do you want a drink" verses "May I offer you a drink sir" as normally found on BA was the one thing that stuck in my mind). Maybe they were just having a bad day.
