Hi all,

I had a quick question concerning what happens to extra tier points when advancing to the next level of FC membership.

Currently, I need 10 more TPs to achieve Au, and have a round trip in April that will bag me 14. What happens with those extra 4? Will they roll over into my new year of membership and count towards renewal (i.e. leaving me with 36 to go)?

Thanks!

As with most if not all such airline programmes, your TPs are reset to zero on your membership year end regardless of the amount gained and tier.

So, you will loose that 4 remaining TPs.

With BA, the same happens, but they run an accumulator that keeps a running total of all tier points ever earned known as "life time" tier points.

Were you ever to reach 30,000 (from memory), you will get AU for life with BA!

However, I for one will never manage this!

With VS, while you're Silver your TPs work on a "rolling year" basis to allow you to achieve Gold. So each month TPs that are more than 12 months old drop off, rather than the whole lot disappearing in one go at the end of your membership year.

Once you hit Gold, however, the clock resets, you go back to zero and you start a new membership year (which is actually up to 13 months, as pointed out above).

VS also have Lifetime Gold - you need to stay Gold for 10 consecutive calendar years and earn 300 TPs on VS metal OR just earn a million base flown miles on VS metal.

Unlike the slick technology BA employs to keep tally, however, it would seem VS rely on someone sitting in Crawley Towers with an abacus.

Humshoe - thanks for that, and I stand entirely corrected.

I guess the rolling nature of AG TPs and the lifetime AU accumulation must be inovations since I stopped flying with VS.

That'll teach me!

The rolling Ag one is interesting - do you know when this was introduced?
