The Glasgow 757s to NY and Philidelphia don't have to stop for refuelling when there's headwinds, I think we're far enough up that it's within range.
This question is all about the shape and size Virgin wants to be. Before they were a hub airline flying jumbos from hub to hub. They tried Little Red to feed into their hubs and it didn't work (in their opinion). They're now developing more into a point to point airline, and the A330 & 787s are perfect for this. Once there's more Dreamliners in the fleet MAN-EWR would make a lot of sense, as would GLA-ATL and feeding into the Delta network.
