Hi,

Due to a ticketing issue, I may have to change flights from those already seated this June. Currently we fly out on VS19 (747 seats 12A/12K) and return on VS8 (787 seats 5A/6A). My flights are normally from MAN, so I have no experience of the different planes or LHR seating arrangements.

Now this ticketing issue (a mix of problems due to Little Red ceasing for the feeder flights from MAN, and my name being spelled incorrectly on the original ticket) means that I may have to change flights to the later ones on either or both legs of the journey. That also means a change of plane to the A340. Would you consider this to be a good move or not?

Please don't get me wrong, I am in no way "VA-bashing". At this point VA have been nothing but helpful in trying to resolve the situation to my satisfaction. I have a named contact working with me, and she understands how important the trip is. They have accepted responsibility for the initial spelling mistake, and they are really trying to fix the problems.

So, would you move to the later flight, swapping from 747 to A340 outbound, and 787 to A340 inbound?

Thanks

Jackie

I always think it's unwise to plan a trip around type of aircraft as they can - and do - change.

Yes, the A zone on the 747 is lovely and the 787 is a new product with novelty value. But, apart from different types of IFE, the service you get is the same and you're best choosing the flights that most suit your itinerary and requirements. The A346 has a perfectly good UC cabin, particularly if you can get seats in the range 3-7K or 8-12A.

I very much agree with what gumshoe has said. I would just take whichever flights are most sensible from a practical perspective. I certainly wouldn't worry about ending up on an A346 -- in my opinion it's a great plane and I have always really liked the UC cabin on it.

I choose flights based on the departure / arrival times depending on what I need to do at either end rather than being on a particular plane type which can soon be changed by the airline.

Thank you all for the advice. I'm happy to report that the ticketing issue has been resolved and I was able to stay on the flights I originally booked. The help I've had from VA has been exemplary.
