Going to Hong Kong in Nov from Heathrow for work (yippee) and upgraded the flights to upper

How inforced is the 3 hour before take off lounge access from London and given the horrible return time of 11:40pm does anyone know if I can do something with our luggage in the morning to allow for a days sightseeing

Dim sum will be brought back in return for information

There is no 3 hour limit if you're flying UC. You could arrive at 7am if you were so inclined (and some do!).

There's only, theoretically, a limit if you've paid for Clubhouse access - though whether it's ever enforced is a moot point.

At HKG you can check your luggage in at any time on the day of your flight at the Airport Express rail stations in Hong Kong or Kowloon, then simply head out to the airport when you're ready. You do need a valid Airport Express rail ticket to enter the check-in area as I recall.

As above, paid access is usually time limited. Get there early, start your break and have fun.

This was made clear to me when I went to buy CH access when flying PE last year. I was a bit early and was asked to come back when there's 3 hours left before the flight.

You can use the downtown check -in that most of the airlines have access to. Personally I leave my luggage at the hotel and collect on my return to the airport. The VS check in at HKG opens 3-4 hours before the flight and much as I love the HKG CH that's enough time in there for me.
Please bring me back some BBQ Pork Buns fro Tim Ho Wan :) .

I'm going to say ditto what the others have said.
I like BBQ pork buns, Shanghai dumplings, prawn dumplings and steamed rice in lotus leaf. :-D
I haven't had good dim sum in ages.

Have a great trip.

I'm off to HKG for the first time next month and flying UC as I couldn't bear the thought of two 12 hour overnight flights whilst sat up! Probably the best use of FC miles I am ever going to get given they reduced the cost of the ticket by over 2/3rds.

Sadly I won't get the full time in the Clubhouse as my inbound from GIB only lands at 17.05 and I need to get my bags and recheck them in.

My question though - what do people do on the inbound flight? It's leaving at pushing midnight and I imagine most people will eat in the clubhouse and go straight to sleep on the plane, but I can't/won't sleep for 12 hours. The time difference is also odd, it's not like people will sit at the bar when they'll be arriving in the UK at about 4am will they?

Ah I am in the same position as yourselve with my Hong Kong flight next month too. My plan is to drop my baggage off using the airport express and spend the day in Hong Kong. As for the lounge I gather it is mainly light food on offer so I will just play the evening by ear and see what happens. See you in Hong Kong maybe

Whilst I have never tried I believe you can even check luggage the night before at Airport Express (although not sure why you would want to !).

The food in the lounge is snacks rather than hearty meal. You either need to have proper dinner earlier or eat on board. There is plenty of time to eat and sleep.
