This is the main V-Flyer Forum for general discussion of everything related to flying with Virgin-branded travel companies.

Interesting HL, perhaps it's time to think about kicking the non active mods from position and asking some of the more frequent posters about taking over some mod duties... Not that I am inciting revolution or anything ;-), but it may keep some of the more active members further engaged - just a thought.

Joeyc present...

I've got a few (well more than a few.. :-P ) TRs in the works so V-Flyer lurking has suffered whilst I write those.

I am also currently battling with Virgin to fare up a RTW ticket. They keep bumping it back with no clear reason, so I am assuming that it is because it is clearly too difficult for the poor hamster on the desk... Revenue management, you never fail to amaze me.

VS advertise this and yet you ask them to provide it and they can't!! Not that I am bitter or anything, but the OneWorld RTW ticket is much easier to fare and you can do it online.

Rant over, joey out ..

RTW ticket = round the world, yes?

Joey, having had to endure 10 extremely iffy weather days whilst in California this year, I commented to my friend that we had spent ages moaning and ranting on about the weather!
She replied "No, we are sharing not ranting" ;-)

Lucydog checking in, I admit i find this new forum package a bit of a struggle, but i do have a peek every night at the gossip going on. I agree it does seem a little quiet a the moment, so it must be an end of year after holidays thing. Most of us are looking at 2016 brochures and choosing our next holiday.
I am still unsure at what is going to change at gatwick with BA going to south and Virgin going to north  i think. So i dont know where to park or which hotels at the airport to use. When does this all kick in. My family want to go to Jamaica so I cannot use our usual Manchester route. :-O I do know my V-Flyer friends are always here to advise. So thank you from me and my family for all your tips and money saving ideas. :-)

Here! I have noticed the trend, too, but have just thought that these things swing in roundabouts.

ScoobySu wrote:+1 from me - started lurking in 2008 but only registered last year but am still checking two to three times per day - having only had two UC flights (yes I know there's an very overdue TR) a lot of the queries are covered those with more experience than me.

Yes ScoobySu! Not to make you feel bad or put pressure on you or anything, but before I set off for our road trip I did look for your inbound TR and couldn't find anything :-P

I have not heard that word in some time Paul, word of the day calendar? or have you been reading lots of Scottish poetry lately?

In answer to your question, yes I will be heading the opposite direction to the spin of the earth. Lets hope that misfortune and occult 'happenstance' do not follow me around ;-)

Yes

Well said Hev, we do indeed share and not rant on this site

Whiterose reporting a bit late, sorry, been very busy (!) in Florida, now with family. Until a few months ago, I too logged in several times a day and tried to contribute when I could, but held back by the knowledge that I had so much less experience and info than so many others.

Maybe, like me, some have had lots to take up their time recently, a new job, new baby maybe? In my case, a house move.

I do sometimes envy the earlier members who joined before other social media took off and thus got to know others a little. TBH, it can to newbies feel that you're very much on the outside of a group of close friends. That said, I've had such a lot of help and advice so freely given and as others have said, it's good to be part of a friendly, helpful and very well moderated forum.

whiterose, I know exactly what you are saying. I'm one of the early members of the forum but not one of those who had had a previous relationship on FT before Pete decided to create V-Flyer way back in late 2003. In the absence of sites like Facebook most of our interaction would have been on this site and inevitably friendships would have been forged. There was a spirit of camaraderie which led to several functions down through the years organised by different members of the board. This, of course, meant that from time to time there would have been posts whereby new members to the site would have felt excluded and that there was an inner clique. I believe that to be true but with the growth of sites like Facebook and Twitter, those 'cliques' for want of a better word have morphed over there. Because of that, I have to say that the site is really a lot less cliquey than it used to be and thus a tad more formal (but still with a friendly and welcoming ethos) OK, you still get "in-jokes" such as my penchant for disasters but the helpfulness still remains and, in spite of the absence of social events with the exception of Little Red's first and final flights or Sealink's occasional soirées in London, V-Flyers do manage to meet up from time to time and start new friendships.

I'm a relatively new member but I did a lot of lurking as an unregistered member on the old forums before signing up for an account.

Since the forum re-design I've noticed that the threads contain far less heated debate and differences of opinion than before. As I see it, someone asks a question, gets the exact answer they want in 1 or 2 posts and the thread dies. I'm not saying this is a bad thing but there haven't been any huge rambling discussions to get stuck into recently.

*petmadness gingerly raises hand* present, sorry I'm late!

Just to say that I check in at least twice a day, post when I feel like it or have time and do feel that this is a positive & friendly forum. It is also entirely responsible for me turning left at the door and my friends calling me a geek because of the ridiculous (in their minds) knowledge I have gained!

The general theme of this thread about some long-term Moderators rings true. Names you used to see often no long appear at all.

That said, the comment about the explosion of social media is also equally true. I joined V-flyer in 2006 and at the time it was pretty much the only place to get fairly accurate info about what was happening. Nowadays, every large firm has a social media team (often online 24/7) to answer queries from customers. Functionality has also been added to v-flyer like the aircraft tracker so with a bit of homework, you can normally make an educated guess as to which plane you may get at T-10hrs or so.

I'm certainly not suggesting a cull of absent moderators - that is a call for Pete & his team to make. But v-flyer is still I site I check a few times a day, even if it is quieter than it used to be.
