Hi

Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels in Brooklyn? we are flying in to Newark in late November & just have one night in New York prior to boarding a ship at the Brooklyn cruise ship terminal so thought it might be easier
to stay on that side of the bridge.

Thanks

ive seen people (maybe not here) mention the NU hotel.
Im prob not much help. WOuld have thought flying to JFK would have been easier to get to Brooklyn than Newark though.

There's not much near there (i.e. Red Hook, or Carroll Gardens).

NU Hotel is a good choice. But unless you really want to look round the area around the terminal before you board (and Red Hook is fascinating, and probably just about at the end of its life as a relatively untouched part of NYC) you might as well take your pick from any of the Financial District hotels in Manhattan.

It's 15 minutes to the cruise terminal from any of those hotels (Ritz Carlton Battery Park, W Downtown, Andaz, Marriott Downtown, Hilton Millennium) in Manhattan via the tunnel, which is about the same time as from the NU Hotel in Downtown Brooklyn.

And you'll be hit by the same traffic whichever way you go...

Staying in lower Manhattan might make sense, also, as you're coming into EWR, so getting to FiDi off your flight is going to be quicker than getting to Brooklyn.

Thank you both.

Flying to Newark rather than JFK Eggtastico as travelling on reward flights & only availability to JFK on the day we travel would have meant us getting up at a silly time to get to Heathrow from Bath so the VS001 at noon seemed ideal, also we hated the immigration queue at JFK when we wn ere there in May, I know that Newark might well be just as bad, I haven't flown in or out of there for a few years.

Think we will look for Lower Manhattan hotels Nylon, thanks, plenty to choose from.

Absolutely. Depending on the time of day, and the traffic situation, you'll either go over the Brooklyn Bridge or the Brooklyn-Battery tunnel, so there's quite a wide area to choose from in terms of hotels. As long as you're not going in rush hour, it should take 15-20 minutes, but - even if you end up staying in Brooklyn - allow plenty of extra time for NYC traffic!

Not answering the question, but loosely connected.... I am currently looking out of my office window at the Cunard Queen Mary docked at the Brooklyn cruise terminal.

Just thought i would share, as I was quite excited to see her!! :)

I would upload my pic of her if I knew how!! :)

Wow, sounds good, thanks, really looking forward to this trip, we are keen cruisers + VS flyers so thought an UC flight to New York, dinner & an overnight stay followed by an 8 day cruise on the QM2 back to the UK would be ideal

Thank you hiljil, really looking forward to it, I was surprised to see that there are 4 formal nights during an 8 day trip.

As we are flying out on VS reward tickets we were able to book cruise only which we think looks good value, interestingly Cunard wouldn't accommodate our request for cruise only but fortunately our local Virgin Holiday's shop
sorted us out.
