So, as per usual, I seem to be leaving everything to the last moment and am struggling to get a decent fare out to Orlando. Seems only to be BA out of Dublin but I can get reward flights to JFK out of LHR and then connect with Delta down to MCO.

I'm thinking this might not be the best option due to potential weather issues in JFK in January.

Has anyone any experience of connecting through JFK at that time of year ?

many thanks in advance

January this year on my way home from LAS I transitted through NYC. It was snowing ;-)

No delays, aside from the usual ATC ones, as JFK is used to handling snow based problems - unlike LHR of course where a single leaf can close a runway.

Thanks Joey,

Now found reward flights into IAD but with weird connections with Delta IAD - MCO but ticketed as

IAD - ATL - MCO

Any ideas if Washington might be better option and what the Delta flights might earn in tier points (flying first) ?

Seem to think each sector is treated as a different flight but might be wrong

thanks

DL first/business is 3TP/sector up to 3000 miles http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/fl ... lines.html

given the choice, personally i'd minimise the transfers unless you really need the TP

having said that, IAD sometimes has very low loads, so (aside from the post new year weekend) it could be good for reward availability in UC - back in january i was on the flight, booked in EC but did points upgrade to UC at LHR and it was so empty they let me upgrade the return leg at the same time :)

upper, then bubbly all the way!

aside from the 'sky lounge' (think bus on stilts) that international pax have to board on arrival to get to immigration, the airport is ok, the IAD clubhouse is bijou, CH burger ok but comes with crisps not fries

i'll be there a few days in january for a work conference/rahrah event a few miles from IAD, much rather be in MCO!

I know you can't trust these long term weather reports but we're going to Boston & NYC in Jan and was literally just looking at Accuweather who are projecting a very mild beginning to the New Year.
