Last week, Virgin Australia applied to commence daily flights from Australia to Hong Kong and Beijing, as part of the proposed alliance with HNA Aviation Group (link to letter from VA to the International Air Services Commission in Canberra below):

If granted, flights to both cities would commence from 01 July 2017. Depending on the timings of the flights to HKG, this could hopefully restart VS/VA codeshares and flying on Virgin metal on the entirety of the kangaroo route.

An interesting development - although they were given the chance to take up the route when VS dropped it and declined. However their tie up with HNA has probably changed their focus. Oz to HKG (and CN) would seem like an obvious move and - yes - great to have a Virgin branded plane all the way to LHR (as long as it doesn't start making the UC mileage seats harder to get now they only have 30.
