Make sure all your £5K spend has been on the Amex as VISA transactions don't count towards the rewards.

If only using on one leg for two people, it places your outbound in an X fare, providing you're flying economy.

Hope your voucher(s) don't take too long to hit. As mentioned above you can redeem for two either outbound or inbound - if adding the voucher to an existing reward you pay the difference in taxes/fees/charges between EC and PE.

Most recently I used one voucher to upgrade sale economy inbound flights from DXB for two, the outbounds being full miles redemptions in UC overnight. Haven't found a home for the second voucher yet but got until next March to book...

The voucher hits your account at the end of each year you've had the card, so not as soon as you've spent the required amount.

If you only have 1 voucher (you can collect 2 per year) & upgrade for 2 people, you may want to do it for the inbound flight, as usually its cheaper taxes.
PE Upgrade at £5k
Companion at £7.5k ( mostly worthless because of the fare bucket needed)
PE Upgrade 2 at £10k

PE Upgrades hit your account after your anniversary date.
Companion Voucher hits as soon as you hit the required spend.

With these vouchers do you have to fly within the year or do you just have to book the flight within the year ?
I have 2 which were added to my account in April and was hoping to use them for flights for June 2017.

Just book within the year, so you basically got maximum 23 months from them hitting your account to take the flight.

What would be the situation in terms of making date/time changes to a flight that you have PE voucher upgraded, after the expiry date of the voucher.
Assume it remains flexible as before, and it is forfeit of upgrade?

ISTBC but if you have 2 upgrade vouchers for £10k spend, you have 12 months to book something, and of course you can book up to the usual 11 months out. If on the next anniversary of your card you've earned another 2 vouchers, great, but if you haven't used the first ones by that anniversary you will lose them, so then still only have 2 not 4.
