Hi, over the years I have read so many posts regarding the Virgin Atlantic's IT system problems which can cause grief. I have always felt lucky I have never actually experienced any issues, until now.........

Back in early June I booked two reward flights to the west coast for March 2017. Our outbound was in PE (as that was all that was available at the time) and returning UC.

Then nearly five weeks ago two G's appeared for our Los Angles flight :-) I phoned the Flying Club and sorted out the upgrade. 15k miles each plus the diffferent in taxes. I was told this would be processsed shortly but the system was working a bit slow. Our requested seats were confirmed by email immediately and the MMB page has been altered to reflect UC now each way.

Over the past five weeks I have telephoned the FC several times to say the upgrade has still not been processed ie no miles deduction or money taken for the taxes. Of course, I now do not have an updated e-ticket :-O

I am at the point where I've decided I am not going to chase them anymore. If this is never processed by the Revenue department but the UC flights are sorted as per MMB, do you think there will be an issue at airport checkin? Anyone else experienced a similar problem.

This isn't actually an IT issue, such upgrades are processed manually and are simply queued up in order of priority. There does seem to be a backlog at the moment, perhaps the staff member who does this is on holiday??? Believe it or not, in some cases the upgrade may not be processed until the day of the flight (it has happened to me) and on check in an agent can process the payment.

Your upgrades are confirmed, the miles and payment will be processed when you hit the top of the pile and the call centre can't address that!

The new reservation system that was supposed to go live in May would have resolved this, I was told. Now that is an IT issue, currently running 2+ months late!

Thanks for reply slinky09. So a little flag might appear on their computer as we check in then :D

I actually remember back in 2009 (I think) when there was an increase in the Air Passsenger Duty. There was six of us travelling to Florida and it wasn't until 24hours before that finally they took all the extra money for the duty increase.

Let's hope the long overdue system upgrades change all these problems. Seeing a seatmap prior to parting with cash would be very welcome, like the US airlines offer. Perhaps a step too far !!!!

I seem to remember someone on here saying that will be happening.
