i'll be doing the above trip in a few weeks, UC on a Z so no limo, i've been pondering using some FC miles for a transfer on the morning trip and use DTCI, i know it's not great value but i've got a lot of miles built up

the ATL-DFW leg is VS5073 on DL metal, can/will DTCI issue boarding passes for both legs and tag bags through to DFW? i've always been on direct flights when using DTCI in the past

the other thing i'm wondering is if being checked through is an advantage or not...

last time i changed there (through tagged, using the bag drop belt at ATL) my bag didn't make it onto the connecting flight (DL blamed TSA screening of inbound international baggage), layover time is 1:45, i'm wondering if being checked through is best or if i'm better checking in at the DL desk, or is there nothing in it?

You can't use miles to get a limo on a Z fare. Only on a G.

Nothing to stop you booking your own taxi though

As ATL is your first point of entry to the US, you will have to collect your luggage and pass through customs before going for your internal flight.

IIRC just after passing through Immigration and Customs (and a further TSA check point) there is a conveyor belt to put your bags if already tagged to DFW. When Mrs Buns and I travelled to MCO via ATL, the DTCI reused to interne the bags, but this was not a problem as opposite the conveyor, there was a Delta Check In Desk

ahhh, i didn't realise it needed to be a reward flight, the main text says "Spent your miles on an Upper Class flight?", but i'd read it more as a 'why not add this', rather than 'only allowed for rewards'

ok, if i do use DTCI i'll need to re-check

thanks

??? not sure what you mean. But the agents there can do the same as the ones downstairs.

If you prefer them to only tag your bags to ATL then tell them.

Ah right yes. But as Mr B says there is a re-check desk just after customs and they'll re-tag it there.

I used DTCI on my recent trip LHR - DTW (VS metal) which connected to DTW - ITH (DL metal) and the bags were checked all the way through to ITH. As is usual with the US, I had to collect the bags after passing through immigration, take them through customs and then drop them on another conveyor belt. No re-tagging was needed though.
