Hi All

I thought I would post details of the UC menu (December cycle) that I picked up earlier this month. The menu is specific to VS73, VS75, VS77, VS109 & VS127 (All MAN departures) but I'm sure will be indentical on most other UK departing routes.

Smoked Salmon & Caviar
Caramelised pear and walnut salad
Tuscan tomato soup

Fillet of beef - creamy garlic mash potato, seasonal vegetables
Teriyaki chicken - Shiitake mushrooms, bok choy, roasted peppers
Tomato and mozzarella gnocchi - creamy pesto sauce, sun-blushed tomatoes and shaved Italian hard cheese
Seafood linguine - roasted salmon, seared scallops and prawns

Sticky toffee pudding with cream
Dark chocolate tart with morello cherries

Mull of Kintyre Cheddar
Perl Wen
Shropshire Blue

Extra Bites
-Classic gourmet beef burger
-Mushroom and leek quiche
-Filo prawns
-Sandwiches- chicken and bacon, and cheddar & tomato chutney.
-Chocolate iced gingerbread cake
-Sultana scone with clotted cream and jam

Not a bad menu... I am reliably informed that the beef always runs out, but the Teriyaki Chicken is surprisingly good - before it runs out.

Also note the slight cutback - you used to get 3 choices of sandwich in the afternoon tea service... it's down to two now. So a sandwich has joined the tubs of ice cream that we no longer get in UC.

It's supposed to change every 3 months, but it has been known for the same menu to be around for 4 or 5 months at a time on occasions. Also if one dish is particularly popular it is not unknown for it to reappear on a future menu.

The flights are catered pretty much exactly to passenger load, so the beef will always run out without fail - unless you have an unusually high number of vegetarians onboard (who have not booked special meals).

Same menu as a lot of the ex-LHR flights too.

The tomato soup, beef and chocolate tart are my favourites

The Teriyaki chicken is delicious! The beef remains as popular as ever too. I haven't tried the Seafood Linguine but I'm reliably told is also delicious and quite a few on a completely full UC on the VS109 enjoyed this.

I don't usually take the sandwiches but I did see them and they were (unwrapped) which doesn't happen on BA in CW and included two of each with offers of more.

I do still find it odd that personal water bottles are no longer in UC but are available on request. it still goes without saying that the biggest risk to VS is the lack of consistency in the delivery of the service. I've had some great flights recently from MAN with top notch FSMs and CC too. Sadly, that isn't always the case and back in November had one of my worst flights ever with VS from MAN with a lazy FSM and a CC who were just not engaged as a result. The service fell apart.

With BA overhauling its in-flight service offer on some routes, I wonder if VS might just do a service refresh too....

And the red cushions
The hot water bottle
The rubber duckie
The bedtime story
The clip-on light for your book
The extra goodies in the amenity kits such as combs and shoe horns....

......and some I have probably forgotten! :-D

Jon

Thanks for the heads up on the current UC menu and the interesting confimation about the bottled water.

Mrs Buns is keen to try it on our next flight and I will be despatched from the Clubhouse to procure bottled water ;-)

Given how many times Crawley Towers have been told about consistency (and lack of), it is a real shame that they have not grasped the nettle >-(

I've always had bottled water on VS - including my last two flights, LHR - MIA - LHR... January 2018.

Bottled water is no more in the LHR Clubhouse and I was handed a (small) bottle of water as I boarded the A/C both at LHR and coming back from MIA as well the other week.

I wonder if because most A330 flights from MAN operate from 216 (which means the dreaded bus Gate 300) might impact this. The small bottles are available on request in UC on-board though I did see these getting handed out in PE on my flight this week.

Interesting I have seen bottles of water on the ottoman on most of my US departing flights in the last three months or handed out once in the air.

Huh, my recent experiences have been different..

It is.. the breakfast bar in the mornings sometimes has them, that butcher's trolley thing that appears at random locations around the CH has the mini bottles as well as juice and cereal bars. If you can't see any just ask the bar staff, they've always found me one if I am in a wandering mood and don't want to carry a glass around with me.

The mini bottles of water have also been on my ottoman/tucked behind the seat on all of my flights this past month. They are also stashed in one of the onboard bar cubbies if people finish the first one and want another.

Simple VS inconsistency it seems, shame :-P

I did ask bar staff and was told they no longer have any bottles of water now in the Clubhouse.
