Hi all,

A two pronged question..

I'm booked on VS to fly to JFK in May with my partner and her father. He booked the flights in PE as reward flights using his miles with us paying the taxes. Everything is currently all on the same booking reference. I am thinking of heading out a few days earlier for some meetings so I wonder if it is possible to split off my booking from the other two and then upgrade to UC on that outbound flight (there's availability)? Would there be any penalties associated with doing this (other than the difference in taxes etc).

Thanks!

No penalties (they’ll move you onto a new PNR) leaving theirs untouched and definitely possible to do and just pay taxes - give them a call :)

(I’ve had an operator at virgin struggle to use my miles to upgrade when the ticket was paid with someone else’s miles. Just keep on asking as I’m sure it’s still possible!)

Thanks. Will see how it goes. Presumably there needs to be availability on the same flight on the different day otherwise the fare buckets won't match?

yes there needs to be reward availability on the other flight.

You'll also have to pay any additional VS 'carrier surcharge' - there won;t be any additional tax (APD) - and the change fee.

Initially her father will have to phone to split off you from the PNR as he did the booking and then you can manage the flight yourself after that.
