Direct or via LHR

As the title says, direct or via LHR - I can get EDI-JFK direct with Delta (Delta One) for around £1500 or for approx. another £40 EDI-LHR-JFK (Upper)

The indirect options gives me about 5 hours in the Clubhouse and includes the shuttle down with Flybe and am guessing includes baggage allowance through.

The direct option obviously means no connections and arrives a few hours earlier into JFK

Any thoughts ?

Delta 1 option for me

Could do via LHR on the outbound to get the clubhouse, then direct back on Delta One?

Time in the Clubhouse is not to be sniffed at!

Not all Delta Ones are the same. So check the plane type on the EDI and LHR routes. DL/com shows seat maps very early in the booking process so easy to check.

On the LHR route DL operates the A330 where all seats have aisle access. According to google flights on the EDI route they use the B757 which according to DL seat maps are a 2-2 layout so not all seats have direct access. The physical seat may be the same but I much prefer not to have to jump over anyone (or have anyone jump over me)

One other question I would ask is what are the timings like on the way back? If it is a long connection time then what lounge access would you get in using fly be for example (over and above VS revivals)

Direct for me. If the price is the same and you have no reason why you wouldn't fly Delta One, as well as having more time at the destination, it's a no-brainer.

I also subscribe to the school of thought that if a direct option exists, it's a case of "use it or lose it". You never know, this may become a VS-operated route in time just like what happened with MAN-JFK.
