Transfer in Atlanta, Delta and Virgin to LHR

Hi

Maybe I am posting in the wrong forum but I wondered if anybody has any experience of th following?
I am departing Miami on a Delta leg, then change in Atlanta for the Virgin leg, there is a transit time of 1hr15mins but luggage will be checked all the way through as it is one ticket.

Is this doable for those that have experienced this? I have a z class UC ticket from Mia to LHR.

You'll be fine. You'll be airside once you land at ATL so it should be a simple transfer with no CBP checks.

If it was the other way round, you would have to clear CBP and then pick up your luggage and re-check it before heading to the DL flight which would make the 1.15hr connection too tight...

yes I agree, we walked through without no problems. But if the flight is delayed you may have to rush. Try and factor that in.

I think the answer to this question always depends on your attitude to risk.

If everything runs smoothly and you’re not a worrier, you’ll be absolutely fine. It’s easily doable if your flight from MIA is on time or thereabouts.

But if the thought of a delay leading to you missing your flight home sends you into a mild panic and means you’ll spend your holiday worrying, you should build in some buffer time to put your mind at rest.

ATL isn’t the worst airport to kill two or three hours in (certainly far nicer than MIA) and you’ll have access to the Delta SkyClub which, while no Clubhouse, is perfectly decent.

I managed a DL Domestic to DL International that was originally 55 minutes but ended up being 45 minutes due to a late gate change!

Yes I did make it and so did my luggage.

I can't remember if I downloaded the DL app or just used their website using onboard wifi (free for accessing DL apps etc) to check my arrival time and gate and also look at the map of ATL so I had a rough idea of the route but ATL is well signposted.


There is something about ATL that appears to cause worry for many v-flyers as this is a regularly asked question that isn't asked about any other airports!

Indeed - JFK & LAX are horrendous for connections while ATL is relatively simple (although the Americans have never embraced the concept of international airside flight connections).

I guess it highlights the importance of ATL as DL’s main hub.

Should be ok... ATL is pretty good for transfers

Never had a problem in Atlanta do the connection from Nashville, I think people put off because of having to use tram to transfer , but this is easier than running the length of jfk( just speaking from experience)

Have found transferring in ATL a breeze - VS to DL and DL to VS - most difficult, in terms of queues to recheck luggage was DL to DL!!
